This is just an example of what I'm talking about, using made up keywords.

Keyword 1 (7 words): the piano is playing good every sunday . c,o,m
Keyword 2 (5 words): the piano is playing good . c,o,m

Keyword 1: (I can probably rank this extremely easily)
12000 exact global searches, 8100 local, low ad competition
    direct search: About 92,500 results
    allintitle: About 187 results
    allinurl: About 200 results
Yahoo answers is ranked #2 on google (lol) and all the other sites are forum posts / have basically no backlinks or on-site seo

    Keyword 2:
5400 exact global searches, 3600 local, low ad competition
    direct search: About 109,000 results
    allintitle: About 2,290 results
    allinurl: About 2,670 results

So for these two keywords, this is what I was thinking of doing: (Have the smaller keyword as an article on the site.)
the piano is playing good every sunday . c,o,m
the piano is playing good every sunday . c,o,m / the piano is playing good

Should I do it like that, or instead do this?
the piano is playing good . c,o,m / the piano is playing good every sunday

Keep in mind the longer keyword would be much easier to rank and has twice the traffic as the other keyword. That's why I wanted to get the EMD for the longer keyword instead.

Did you tick the exact box? 92,500 seems ridiculously low for a keyword with 12k exact global searches. If you did tick the exact box then go for #1.

Remember it's 7 words though - I'd say it's about right for a keyword that length.

I agree, but how many 7 word phrases have 12k exact global searches? I would guess not many.
