Hey everyone. I am currently working on my first product.

My plan was to complete the actual product first, then build a blog around it. But im wondering if I should do it the other way around?

I thought it would be a better idea to have a product ready FIRST, Then focus on social media promotion, ads etc, directly with the product. I have a feeling it can go viral with the right push, because its the first of its kind and pretty creative imo. In this process I would be building a list as well, I plan to create a whole product line within this niche.

But anyway --- > Product THEN grow blog?
OR Grow Blog THEN Finish Product ? -- they are both time consuming

    any input would be appreciated

Depends on how long time it will take, to build the product.

Personal i'll build the blog, and hype it. On the site i'll make a pop-up there make people sign-up for the retriving an email, when it's out. That way you can also build up a nice list, of emails.

you can start before making a product, if the product is not virtual product,or downloadable product. Because, it takes some time to index your blog and you need to do some seo task to rank it up.IF your product is virtual one, you have to do it after making the product.Otherwise it may hampers your reputation.

That is right. You could have people waiting for a physical product, but not a virtual one.

You can start promoting a product before it is ready, but you need to have some type of discount for people
who sign up prerelease so it is worth it. Also this will give you a nice email list.

How about you grow the blog WHILE you finish your product? That way you can find potential customers who might also give some nice suggestions to add to your product. Also, as rabbitking said, it will help increase your email list :).

Tim Ferris would tell you promo blog, 100%, then worry about the product. And for the most part, I'd agree.

Thanks guys. Yes it is a virtual product. Hmm, Im also worrying about disclosing what the product is, if its not close to release, I am still in the process of filing a copyright as well. Even though the content on the site is not the same as the product, but very closely related. I just think If I push everything simultaneously it would would be good. and I can kill two birds with 1 stone. but you guys are definitely right.

But the blog is set-up and indexed, just no content being published on it.
