I train MMA. And we’re all in a group chat to shit talk and what not. I’ve always known he had a bad website, bad presence. His google maps also even has duplicate listings and the big one has the wrong number.

He sent a text in the group chat about wanting to shoot a video for marketing purposes and for us all to be there.

I feel like maybe I should talk to him. Not trying to sell, but say hey I do marketing (he doesn’t know what I do. He’s a jokester but I’m not that close with him yet. Mostly with the others I am), you should change your google maps and update your phone number.

I do SEO and before did work for agencies, but am now trying to get my own clients. I have a journey here. I’m doing a lot of cold outreach to get my first client. But I know him.

I think it would be good to get him as a client. He could refer a lot of work, but he’s my coach. I don’t want to potentially ruin our relationship. I also don’t know if he can afford the service.

Any advice?

That is one of the best ways to market. A chat on a relationship level.

Any chance it makes sense to you to work for cost to get the referrals?

Consider his SEO the payment for the referrals?

Smart. I’m just assuming that he would refer me with a good job because the niche is close. So he knows tons of others that have gyms.

I’m gonna go for it I think. Unfortunately if I don’t get something soon, I may have to get a job again. Crazy how IM switches like that.

Go for it! I've done similar things before with people I know, if you want it to be less tense you can offer him a short term trial. Then if he doesn't like the work it's not a big deal.

From my point of view, I understand it can be a difficult chat, but it could have a great outcome for both of you.

It's a service tou can provide, woukd be good to offer him a good price as a first client who can help with referals and get you started.

Don't want to sound weird, but yolo :)).
