I have a fashion website that is starting to rank fairly well for some good keywords, but on the site i am using a made up female profile because i figure it would look better to women seeing a female author.

I currently have about 200 unique articles written by a few writers that i use regularly on odesk.

My goal is to make it an authority site, but i dont think that will work well with the premise of the page being a lie.

I want to figure out a good way to show that me.. a male... owns this fashion website, but not put females off who go to it and think i am some retard lol. Only reason i want to do this is because i spend a lot of time on it and its kind of hidden from friends and family. I want to come out of the closet and own it : )

So i was thinking maybe i can put my face on the page saying that i run it, but then have a few female bios on the site also and make sure that everybody knows that they are the writers.

Why bother? I have so many different personas online haha. It's not really gonna make much of a difference imo,

But if you feel it will be a weight off your shoulder go for it :)

Their's a lot of men in the fashion industry. Ever heard or Ralph Lauren, Gianni Versace, Oscar de la renta? I don't think you'll strange for being a man with a fashion website.

as other have stated above it doesn't matter whether you are a man or woman who owns a fashion website.

In my opinion its what you offer your clients/audience that matters. the higher the quality the better it is...

I think the part about it that will be odd to people is that i don't write any articles.. i just use my army of minions.

All that matters is perception control. If you feel your needs are best served by having your visitors think a female owns the site, then voila, so be it - and vice versa.

I don't really think it would make a difference.

Pretending to be a female has been going pretty well for you, so why change it? :p

Are you planning on keeping the BS female profile posting ? If so just create a real profile and post once explaining that you have joined/taken over but the female will still be contributing.

I wouldn't change it. Think of the reason why you did it in the first place..Stick with it.. If i could increase my earnings by dressing up in leather with a gag ball in my mouth and post a few profile pages, screw it.. Just send me my damn check ! lol

    +1 for this.

Revealing yourself won't improve the visitors experience or your earnings and therefore I don't think it's worth changing.

Do you want your face on there for your porfolio or something? If so, just call yourself the editor and have 'females' author all the content.

Collect an email list and video yourself coming out of a closet with an Aslan lion suit, that should do the trick lol.

If it'll help you feel better about yourself, then go for it. Don't be afraid to take risks, and I honestly doubt that anyone would care. Just make sure to create an appealing story that will let people pitty you for hiding it as a secret. Women love drama.

There's no reason to come out and say "IM A GUY" just keep doing what you're doing. It would only be important if your site becomes the next facebook and you're making $5,000,000 a day. Otherwise no one really cares.

Well, if your not 500 lbs and ugly, then go for it...but if you are the latter, then go with the false identity...and if your gay, then that will probably help too...

and even if you are not gay, then tell your followers that you are and you were afraid to "out" yourself and maybe you will receive more sympathy...

That's a pretty traditional way of thinking about fashion, it's not the 1950's anymore and plenty of guys are fashion bloggers and some of the most famous designers out there are guys. The most important thing is you have found a way to earn money!

How much do you earn from your website by the way? Perhaps now is the perfect time to recruit a few female writers and free up your time? You can get to work on new fashion projects then!

Dude if that's the case then I have hundreds of closets to come out of. Some of them would be quite awkward to explain if i had to haha! Why change something that is making $ though? (apart from to increase the $ )
