There is one Indian forum , which is very popular and have more than half million users. It is educational forum. And the owner of that forum have booked only .com domain. Should I buy .in of the same domain?? Do you consider it as a good investment?

    Thanks for any help

No you don't have to IMO. Since, most of the popular sites including forums are registered in their respective regions and can take your domain for free.

    Do a whois...

And get a misspelled domain with .com and not with sameName.in if you have something BH in mind. :)

TBH i'd get it, just be aware that they can take the domain away from you with a UDRP. Register under who is privacy and park the domain.

If you think of ranking it, I would say no, because they can easily get it. But you can try the redirect option, till they acquire it from you... :)
