Hey theres a macbook laptop someone bought last year near my city for sale for 90 bucks. the person says it recieved water damages and it wont turn on. and apperently they took it to a computer guy and he says it needs a new logic board. but you know comp guys, could be lying to get you to buy something. anyone think i should get it? what could i do with it if it doesnt work and i cant get it working? is it possible to get it working? i could probably barain down.. Let me know Thanks.
I used to work in a service center. let me tell you the damage is really dependent on was it running , how hot it was, was it submerged. Given that it wont turn on the "computer guy" cant tell you for sure. but i will tell you that if you part it out the screen is worth then 90. so ebay that shit if you can get it worked
for $90? yes.. Get it, take it to an apple store and ask what needs to be replaced... if it too much, sell the parts on ebay. Look at this: http://cgi.ebay.com/13-Apple-MacBoo...ca5826c1c&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_3281wt_1165 Selling at $103 right now for spare parts.. so you have nothing to loose... so you can go ahead and resell that $90 macbook and, at worst, gain a couple bucks
You can go to an apple store and pay $350 to repair anything that is wrong with it. It has a 90day warranty after that.
Well the logic board is basically the motherboard and the CPU which you can't take apart, and literally it's over $1k to buy the part let alone the service fee to install the part. Even if its under warranty, you still have to pay for the part to be installed. And I doubt the warranty would cover this as it wasn't the laptops fault for getting it flooded with water
fyi computer companies are required to replace hardware that causes a safety hazard regardless of warranty....so buy it, call support and claim it smoked/sparked/combusted, if they put up a fight escalate the issue to a higher level, maybe threaten to involve their legal dept. its fun and it works.
Offer $50. Never pay 1st asked price. The screen, if good should fetch $30 or so just for it on Ebay. Case, keyboard, battery(maybe) socket set, etc. Just like a used car the laptop parts are marketable. Often screens are cracked from either closing to hard or a pen or mouse is left on the keyboard and it is closed and then it's cracked. OR get it diagnosed and fix it your self. Replacing parts on laptops is easy. Internet has lots of sites showing how to take them apart. JB
Offer something something lower than $90. Take it to the Apple store to see how much it could cost you to get it fixed. If not, you can still earn some of your money back by reselling it on eBay.
With water-damage there is no way to tell what is completly wrong with it.If it was submerged in water completly it is pretty much toast, and will NEVEr work right again. Unless fast steps were taken to counteract the water damage then its pretty much a paperweight. The internals could be warped
http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-Mac-Water...tops?hash=item20ad3477c3&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 hmm that ones already at 115 with 2 days left and 6 bidders. I havnt got an email back though, he prolly already sold it
you were trying to this for <$90? He has the reserve set for obviously higher than $115 because the reserve hasn't been met. Also, there's been 6 bids on it and they bid around $100-$115
