Should I buy a domain name that has never existed but has tons of backlinks?

So basically an authority site in my niche frequently links out to a URL that does not exist. This URL is not an actual page and has never been owned or hosted. But it has good PA/DA/TF/CF solely owing to these links.
Would it make any sense at all to buy this domain name, host it, add content to it, i.e. basically use it like a PBN site. Or would buying it and simply setting a 301 at the domain name server pass any link juice (no hosting)? Since the niche matches my money site closely, I imagine the backlinks would be very relevant. Thank you and appreciate your insights.

They wouldent link out if it wasnt a real site at some point. Check archive and you will see it was probably a site before

That sounds very odd at first since no website would constantly reference a nonexistent one, most likely there was a website there once but the domain expired and its owner didn't want to renew it for some reason.
Anyway just pick it up and try your luck.

Hi,
Thanks for replying. I have checked whois, archive.org and screenshots and indeed this has never existed.
Do you think I should host it? Or should I simply 301?

Thank you, it never existed for sure. I think they are misinformed about the URL or never checked it themselves.
The only problem I see with using 301 is that Google would check that page for content relevancy and since no content exists on it, or has ever existed, I don't know what the impact would be.

I'd buy it and 301 it myself.

I do that sort of thing semi-often and have never had an issue.

Maybe they've made a typo. I also have one domain like this. Some idiot made hardlinks by hand and made a typo of TLD, instead .com they hardcoded .co, I've bought the domain and linkjuice with it.

So did you host it? Or 301? And how did you get that url indexed if you used 301?

I use techniques like this for churn and burn. Build links to none existent domains over a year or so. It maybe what is happening with the domain. Yes I'd buy it.

You need to do your homework very well so that you understand what it takes to have the domain. Personally, I will say that when the domain is having good hits, then be sure that it is a good domain to invest in. You have need also to be sure that you are not being conned and in real sense the domain does not fetch the kind of traffic. But be on the look out that you do not miss out on the offer

Why build links to a non existent domain? I can see 0 upside to this.

Hehe, this is quite known technique. Check this out:

You build millions of links to a domain which is not there. If the domains doesn't exist - you can't give it manual penalty. Got it ? :-)
Later on, dudes were registering this and get profits from link juice and no penalty :-)

Easy as that but still I think that slap can go later on.

@C00KIE - it will be indexed natuallly. Just give a few days/weeks :)

This plus when you buy the name it makes it look like it has mass popularity.

No way someone can be so retarded. It's like throwing away money so others can pick it up.

As soon as you buy it, and it index's you're going to get penalized though, no?
