I know that the cost of an SSL isn't much to a forum like BHW. But I do know that SSL does take up more resources on the server. I am just paranoid that my network is being monitored by competition and since BHW is where most of my business comes from, I get the feeling that they are able to pin point whos profile i look up and whos PM i reply to and stuff. I could easily use an SSL proxy or a vpn, but for several reasons I can't use them all day.

Just thought i'd put up this thread who might have better reasons to recommend to the owner that the site could be on an SSL

There's no good reason for it to be on an SSL certificate.

    Chill :)

I think it would be great just as an added level of privacy.

I doubt your competition are tapping into your network... unless you're on an insecure WiFi and your competitior happens to be near by.

SSL doesn't prevent your competitor from viewing your profile.

You really are the paranoid android aren't you.

It's really unlikely that they are tapping into your network, but if you are that worried that they are you should really use a VPN or something.

yes there is not need of it, there is no valid reason for this and no one wants to hack some one's acc on BHW if excluded some rare cases....

Think of how resource hungry the forum already is - and then add a SSL layer to it? Yea... not a good idea. It wouldn't give you anything unless you are seriously afraid of a 'man in the middle' type attack. Even in that case, if they were good, they'd have a logger on your machine anyway and you'd still be tracked.

Simple answer - good anti-virus and anti-spyware tools.

Oh... and a concrete condom for your computer. :p

LOL you think SSL will prevent them to sniff you? You're wrong, come back to 1999 and say that. BHW is okay this way. SSL won't help your privacy, instead you should hire some IT professionals to secure your network

It's pointless, there's no real reason why BHW should have SSL. The sections are open to everyone, it would be better of locking these away from the general guests.

must be because its openssl, but yeah, server loads from ssl can be quite heavy at times.

Literally, get a VPN if you're that parro! I don't understand how your competitor is monitoring your BHW activity, unless you work for an SEO/IM firm and are doing your own work while at the office lol.. I really feel that anyone else looking at it these posts/this forum is just gonna be like.. :| when it comes to 'stealing' your work/customers.. Who would be 'sniffing' around at the ISP side of your connection? Guess how many webpages are being accessed every second.. don't see why they'd single you out and look at your web history, besides there's probably a lot more interesting people to monitor (no offence) - but you know, the people doing illegal stuff are the people who usually get monitored in this way..

You are clueless. SSL is guaranteed to prevent sniffing. There 's no real attack on SSL encryption itself, attacks are possible when there 's both an ssl and non-ssl version. Or when someone owns a root cert...
