I noticed that some of my blog posts can be combined to form one long blog post.

The usual length is 400-600 words.

Will it be better if I combined the posts into one comprehensive blog post?

If so, do I just combine the content in the older post or do I do it in a new post?

    Thanks.

    Hi there,

Longer posts will generally rank better than shorter ones. A 1,000-word post will have more long-tail variations of your keyword that will show up in the search results and will be seen as more comprehensive to the search engines than a shorter article. Longer posts contain more synonyms and variations that help improve your LSI and can uncover key phrases that you can optimize your content for further.

Another content strategy to use is to create what's called a 'Pillar article' that forms the basis of your content.

For example, one pillar article could be: 'The Top 10 Tips for Losing Weight Quickly.'

The above article could provide a general overview of the best tips for losing weight and be around 3,000 words. These pillar articles make your site authoritative and a great resource to attract natural links from relevant blogs in your niche.

Once you have set up your pillar article, you can then write a smaller 500 to 800-word article on every tip that goes into extreme detail. For instance, if tip #1 was to reduce your calorie intake, you could then write a separate post on the best eating and exercise habits for reducing calories, and then link back to your pillar article to increase the stickiness of your site and reduce bounce rates, which affects SEO in a big way.

Each tip should link back to your main pillar article, and at the bottom of the post, you could put an opt-in box to receive a free gift or to subscribe to your site.

Not only do the pillar articles make your site a good resource that encourages natural linking, it also funnels traffic to other parts of your site. Each link that the pillar earns will also transfer the authority to every page that it links to as well, which means that each of your individual tips will have a higher chance of scoring highly in the search engines.

    Something to think about!

Use maximum 750+ to 1000+ words article to post your blogs, But be careful about the content :) If you write the user friendly content then only this strategy work out, Otherwise you lose the visitors :)

long and detailed posts perform well an rank better in searche engine. first you need to focus on people not search engines. write content people need to read and if you could offer step by step guide will be Great. i also believe people need simple content to read. don't think out of the box and use complicated words. just simple and focus on solving a specific problem.

Long content is better than "thin" content. You said you want to combine your old articles to create a longer post, I'm not sure if that's a good idea, but what's important is, your content should look natural, readable and useful. Long post is far better than short post since it keeps your readers stay longer on your site, provide them a wider knowledge about the subject and able to answer many questions on their mind. Always remember that your content should always be unique, well-written, well-structured, grammatically excellent, and useful to your target audience; quality content that helps answer your audience question are most likely be shared, comment, and liked.

I prefer to combine content on the same exact subject into one long post. However, make sure it really all relates to the same subject. As suggested above, you can always make child posts of the main one for a more thorough look at subset of the subject
