Alright this is a noob question but I can't find the answer anywhere. When I post articles to my website with wordpress the full article shows but I only want either the beginning or a description to show. How do I change this?

this can be done by a small plugin called limit post and by editing the theme files to get it work.

Tried limit post but it moves my widgets to the bottom and centers some of my articles for some reason, not sure why. Also I'm using a Flexx plugin and I'm not sure how I would change those settings in there

    Do you mean excerpt?
You can open theme index.php or home.php, and edit the_content() to the_excerpt()
    Hope it helps =)

this is easily done in the post editor.

when you add a new post open up the "visual" editor, (alternatively you can also do the same thing in the "html" editor also), at the top you will see various icons that allow you to manipulate the text, i.e. make bold, aligh left, etc... you will see one called "insert more tag", or alt+shift+t in IE.

wherever you place that tag in your post, wordpress will show the top half of the tag in the home page followed by text that says "read more". you can place that tag wherever you want in your post to control how much text you want to show.

I am trying to do this via CC plugin so the content comes in automatically and I am not able to edit each post.

I wonder if there is a setting in wordpress itself that lets you set the amount of characters in a post before it goes to read more?

Here is the plugin that I use:

    Evermore

    Code:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/evermore/

The preview that Evermore creates is controlable, log in to your WordPress administration console and go to the Settings, then click Evermore. You will see the Evermore configuration screen where you can set the following options.

    * The number of paragraphs each preview should contain
    * The minimum length of the preview
Sometimes, the first paragraph of a post can be very short (just a short sentence, or a picture). This option allows you to add extra paragraphs to make the preview a more reasonable length.
    * Where to put the "read more" link — either at the end of the last paragraph, or on a new line by itself

Evermore does not change your saved posts. If you wish to display full posts on your home page again, simply go to your WordPress administration console and disable the Evermore plugin. Everything will be back as it was.
    Notes

Evermore has been tested successfully with WordPress versions from 1.5 to 2.7, and should also work with newer versions as they are released.

    Enjoy

You can use plugins called wp advanced excerpt, and combine it with wp thumbnail for excerpt. You can control the length of excerpt and the tags for it. Thumbnail are created automatically when it found the first images on your post, you can control the size of the images.

    Have fun templating.
