Ok, I wanted to share my success story as maybe a minor inspiration to some getting into SEO. I'm not rich or a millionaire, but I have been able to slowly sculpt a career out of SEO, all while being a college drop out. I owe a ton of it to the awesome advice given on black hat world.

1-2 Years ago
I created my first website about 2 years ago, it was an Arcade website and was my first success. At the peak it was pulling me in around $500 dollars a month using adsense and epic game ads. I threw some book marks at it, and it ranked, back when that shit was all you needed. I was pretty excited, but still had dreams of making 5k a month or more. Over time, as I worked my regular job, my site tanked and I really didn't have time to do it anymore. I eventually quit my regular job because....well.... I hated it.

Other opportunities
I started getting into other ways to make cash. I got approved to be a Google reviewer using one of the larger review contractors. So I spent about 4-6 months doing that to get by. I still have that contract now, but it built experience and relevance in my industry. Not necessary ranking sites, but understanding how Google views relevancy and quality.

This Year
This year I spent all my time looking for SEO jobs, to gain MORE experience, and I got my first job working full time doing SEO for a small web design company. I get paid approximately 15 dollars an hour, and where I live, that isn't too bad, not great either. But it was extremely important for me as I learned a LOT about client interaction and got to practice white hat SEO on lots of client sites. I developed the entire SEO business model for this company based on experimenting.

Recently
Recently I have been a bit frustrated at my current SEO job, due to the way it's managed, aka no ability to outsource and I basically work as a link monkey and can only provide average results at best because of that. Most people who do SEO understand the importance of being able to outsource work. A week ago as I was feeling frustrated about my job, I got a call from one of our clients. She asked for some basic information on her FTP so a intern at her company can work on the site. After a few mins of conversation, she finally turned to the topic of me working for her. She suggested when the summer intern is gone, I come work for her for $20+ a hour plus benefits. I was pretty shocked, but a bit elated that I must be doing something right.

Now
I still work at my small SEO company and am planning on following up with the other clients job offer in a month or so towards the end of summer. I read some of the awesome threads in offline marketing by 7878 and Tacktical. I filed my LLC a week ago to start my own SEO firm on the side, until I can have my own firm full time. I realized that I want to outsource and provide great results for clients, make more money, and ultimately have more freedom. I hope in the next month or so I will really start marketing my SEO business and start picking up my first clients.

*If you can, get paid to learn. I get paid to experiment with dozens of websites, massive PPC campaigns and more. It sure beats investing your own money on these things when you are in learning mode.

Thanks BHW
Much that I have learned has come from this forum, and is slowly sculpting a career for me, being a bum college drop out and all. I have had a few successes and many failures. But as long as you keep going in the right direction and learning, the possibilities are endless. Remember, failure doesn't mean shit unless your dead.

Hold on your a google reviewer?

Can you please upload all tests they make you do and all the guidebooks, rules and policy's they provided you with, along with a step by step guide of the process and what they look for?

Inspiring post, another reason why i will never give up until i achieve my dreams of making 2k monthly.

It's great to read stories like these. Although right now I wouldn't call it a success story but it certainly has the making of it. Dedication patience and a willingness to please the clients (or at the very least get results). I can't wait to hear what happens a year from now.

Also I support what themrh says. Maybe you can make a new thread and post all your experience in there.

Sure he will LOL!

Congrats on your success! Keep going strong and scale up! Goodluck with your future ventures also. :)

Yeah I would say its success in progress. Especially considering 1 year ago I worked for $10 a hour at a call center. If I land this job tomorrow for 20+ a hour, I will believe that's a big step. Not to mention the awesome experience I will get handling a massive PPC and organic budget. Also my business I plan on having 3-4 clients within 60 days with JV deal with two IT firms in Tucson. (Business network works guys)

Update: I ended up getting the job with the client starting at $20 a hour. Which is a nice pay raise from where I am at. The job starts September 1st. I am in a stressful position with the company I am at now due to the company having serious issues financially and in "providing" results due to lack of resources. I am hoping this transition goes smoothly. Just trying to stick it out here til my new start date. I will be sending out my own company packets for marketing my own SEO also around August.

we should all thank bhw.Bhw teaches us many things and helps others to run business etc.every body can learn a lot here than any other forum.

Nice story... the only thing - get a diploma (yes, it will take some time). Diploma is a thing you lack on your wall. gl

It may be too personal of a question, but may I ask your age? My guess is that perhaps you're still in your early 20's? If that's the case I just wanted to say that I feel you are getting some really great on-the-job training, perhaps some of the best in the industry, and I like that you seem aware of that.

With what you're learning, I'd say you're not too far off from busting out on your own and being worth four or five times what you're paid right now. I get an impression that you'll be doing very well for yourself in the future. I think we all sense that.

Don't give up; don't doubt yourself, and keep learning as much as you can.
Just remember us little people when you're a shining star. :)

Hey man thanks for the encouraging words! I am 25. I have already left the past position and now have a job secured making $20 a hour that starts in a month and am working on ranking my own website providing SEO! I predict my website will be on first page for my local seo keywords in about a month at this rate. Then I will start looking for my first clients!
