Anyone that is into local marketing and / or local business directory want to share ideas, tips via IM? Lets talk and see if there are ways we can help each other. Sometimes it takes another person to open you eyes about something simple that you might have missed out on.

PM me if you are interested.

PS. This is not JV, more of networking and collaboration.

If it is gonna be on facebook, it might as well be here, don't u think it is gonna be easier? :)

Just an idea, the facebook group for the online/offline hybrid seemed to have some interest. Its also easier to keep it organized, rather than having one hundred page post with the same questions coming up over and over due to it being covered in post #225 on page 27, etc. You could have one thread on getting clients by phone, another on getting clients by mail, another on website design and templates.

before we go on making a discussion about the discussion, I will offer a suggestion, not as a guru, but to break the philosophic BS that is sure to follow. How about a voice mail blast in the middle of the night to all of the BBB listings in a region to a set and forget directory site. You can tailor it by niche or region. Its not as stable or straight forward as telemarketing by day to businesses or face to face contact, but it could be blasted out fast. VPS and skype with a vcc might be capable of this somehow.

Just to throw an idea to talk about.

Guru's dont need to collaborate with peons like you ;)

If I would be a guru I wouldnt need to talk to others who are in the same boat as me. I want to to be able to connect with a few people who are into the same stuff who can exchange ideas, comment on ideas and work together accomplishing the same goals. We are in our own local markets and are no competition to one another. Its all about sharing and we got the whole pie to ourselves right now.

Maybe not in the middle of the night but during evening or weekend. Most of the VM's will be ignored but since its automatic it wouldnt hurt if you get some clients out of it.

Wow... hope this wasn't directed at me.

If so, didn't mean to imply that you... personally... were a guru by any means. By your post, it's kinda obvious that you aren't (no insult to your intelligence intended).

As for me, I've been in the trenches for about 12 months now and I'd say that I'm making quite a bit more than peon's wages.

IMHO, any local business guru would be doing themselves a huge favor collaborating with people like me, because then they'd at least have a clue as to what's actually working in the real world.

Don't get me wrong, there's still a lot more to learn... just not from the guru types ;) (again IMHO).

I'm interested, what IM - Instant Messenger are you using? I mostly use skype and gtalk but I prefer skype. Add my if you like:

Skype: eatingemokids

illbeback "Wow... hope this wasn't directed at me. " - Doubt if anything was meant, and who cares. ;)

:scratchch

The reason I was thinking the 2AM method was that I had no intention of talking to anyone. Someone picking up the phone to hear a recorded message has busted you for illegal marketing and a quick $500 fine here in sunny CA. They DO know it and complain, but sans the cleaning lady, no one could prove I didn't just get drunk on absinthe and start cold calling.

On a more serious note, If you still want to throw around some ideas with a peon, IM me.

I am very interested in local marketing, especially for directory advertising. I know of a hot local niche that is spending a lot of money on Ads, so I have a target in mind.

I'm playing with buddypress and WP directory plugins to find a good, open source clone for niche directory sites. I want to add local niche themed news and of course encourage social activity.

I figure OpenX for additional upsell Advertising and image serving. (be as naughty as you want to be).

Filling a directory with non profits by permission initially has been mentioned in other threads and seems like a good practice.

Just more ideas. Any of them good?

Joomla - Sobi2, Jreviews, Mosets Tree
WP - DirectoryPress, WPDirectory
Standalone - Meeplace, PHPMyDirectory, Esyndicat, Edirectory

I am very interested in anything you guys have to say about local marketing. I have a question about the Google maps and local search. Is there a way to use different ip addresses to post fake reviews? I have heard that Google maps out your service area based on the ip addresses of the reviews a business gets, is this true? If so how do we get geo targeted ip addresses?

A real simple way is to get a dialup account. dialup into the city u want the review.

real simple and real convenient

He means that you should use a modem to dial up to local ISP which will give you a local IP address.

That's what I thought, so for example choose a local number through aol dial up and write a review? Would that do it? There is no other way to change ip addresses?
