    hey guys

Google will always continue to trouble me. i just sold a top ranking big ticket site and as a result the hosting was changed from mine (hostgator) to the buyer's(godaddy) the site was ranking #1 but now its nowhere to be found. at least not in top 100. WTF??? I am really stumped on this one. Funny thing is a subpage of my site shows on the 5th page of google result for the keyword the homepage was previously #1 for. should I just tell the buyer to wait or do something?

any helped would be extremely appreciated.

yeah I guess like 1-2 hours max. not more than that. Btw when i try to check the sites hosted on a particular IP address for the godaddy server and hostgaotr one(mine) the sold site shows up in both? maybe the nameservers have to propogate across the internet or something?

Ok firstly the nameserver changes takes time, so it could be possible that since the homepage is crawled the most, and it was down for a long time, it went into a dance.

Secondly, ask your buyer to check his webmaster tools, with godaddy its not very unusual that the server gives up and there are too many 500 internal server errors which the google bot gets...

Google pays a lot of attention on the site's loading speed and the errors thrown by the site, so ask him to take care of that.. my site was ruined by godaddy..

This happened to a site I sold. Rank dropped after transferring files to the buyer's host. About 1-2 weeks later I checked the ranking and it was back to its original spot.

Did your host not offer you a 0 downtime transfer?

    I definitely feel for you.

this happened to me to one of my best websites. I upgraded hosts as I was starting to make big $$ and the website dropped off and never came back again despite all efforts and that was back in October 10'

    best of luck to you

These things take time, google will temporarily drop sites if it notices major changes in the website, it does this so it has time to reindex them correctly and it prevents people from taking really high-ranking sites and just changing the content entirely to something else. It should, hopefully, come back.

    Good luck, chief.

The page load speed is one of the big factors in ranking. If he transfered busy site on a cheap ,slow hosting he would definitely loose some rankings...
Happened to me once. I used to have an aggressive autoblog on a shared hosting and could never really get any improvements in rankings... Average load speed was about 8 -12 seconds. It was slower then 90% of sites. Then I moved site to a hew VPS and it jumped HIGH!
It could be one of the reasons.

No no, I just actually transferred one of my high ranking sites to a new host to consolidate all my site and it feel completely out of google for a few days as well...hit it with a good x-rumer blast, some press releases, and some social media activity and it will start climbing again quickly....trust me i have done this a few times.
