    Hey Guys,

I am trying to setup WPMU on bluehost and I am having a bit of trouble. I already have a site setup but want to add more sites to it each on their own domain.

I have read through the tutorials on creating a network and have just spoken to bluehost and here is the confusing part, BH have told me it is possible to setup but just not with a wildcard sub domain setup instead I have to use file based setup.

I have searched and can't find it anywhere and don't want to start the install unless I am confident I can do it.

Has anyone setup one on bluehost before and give me some tips?

    Home Page:
WMPU uses 2 methods as blog address. subdomain like blog.domain.com and directories like domain.com/blog

The first one needs wildcard subdomains supported by the host. Most shared hosting providers won't allow it so just use the 2nd one.

There is an option to select this in wp network admin.

I have been reading that also, so if I setup using the directories option can I still have it so that the each blog/site is on it's own domain? Eg.

    www(dot)xyz(dot)com and www(dot)abc(dot)com

Sure thing mate, but first just to let you know I am no expert but everything seems to be running fine so far. If I encounter problems with my setup I will post back and let you know. If anyone has anything else to add or if I missed anything please let me know.

    Here is what I did:

BlueHost do not allow "wildcard subdomains" so I had to setup a Sub-directory.

    Step 1
Backed up my WP site using the CPanel Backup Wizard

    Step 2
Using the FTP option in CPanel I opened the file WP-Config.php for editing and searched for the line
    PHP:
/* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */
Then I added the following directly on the line above it
    PHP:
    define('WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE'true);
Whilst in the FTP I also created a directory called Blogs in the /wp-content/ folder.

    Step 3
I went back into my WP admin panel went to TOOLS ---> NETWORK
Changed the network title and email then hit Install.

    Step 4
I followed the simple instructions on the next screen from the Install.

    Step 5
Downloaded the WordpressMU Domain Mapping Plugin and followed the instructions which were very straight forward. If you have trouble with that stage just post back here and I will include what I did.

Hope that helped, let me know if you need more info/help!
