Hello everyone, After lurking this forum for literally years, two or three at least, I have made an account so I can start interacting! As my first thread, I want to outline my journey to a successful online shop. Most of you will probably snicker at the idea of monetizing from an e-commerce site. It's obviously a lot more labor-intensive and hands-on than the normal CPA/Affiliate route. I am fine with that. I have someone doing all of the hands-on stuff for me. This is a trending niche that is booming right now, so I am going to ride the train until it's time to sell it off! Without going into specific detail, the items being sold are for the 18 and older crowd and are searched a very particular way. I don't want any negative SEO attacks or false traffic, but message me if you are interested in more information about it! I am a little over three weeks into this project. So far, I have: - Set up the site - Ironed out all of the payment stuff - Written several high-quality articles - Started on-page optimization - Identified a list of keywords to target - Started affiliate relationship building - Purchased an SSL Certificate A side note about payment gateways: they can get tricky, depending on what you sell. My particular line of products has caused hassles for nearly every payment gateway I was interested in, including getting shut down from Stripe, so I had to choose a specialized gateway that deals with vendors of my nature. The price is a little higher, but this is okay. For anyone considering an e-commerce site, take your time sorting out the payment gateway stuff. My expenses to date are as follows: - Domain - Fiverr Banner Ad - SSL Certificate - Payment Gateway Plugin - Recurring Payment Gateway Expenses All in all, I have spent exactly one hundred plus nineteen a month recurring. I have procured the items from China. The initial investment was small (I can't post numbers because of the spam detection on BHW!). There is a significant mark up! Because of the low dollar amount, however, I need to sell high volume. I know that these will fly off of the "e-shelf" given a proper SEO campaign and some general e-commerce practices. I will be mixing white and black hat techniques. My plan of attack is as follows: - BH Link Building (Scrapebox, UD, Hrefer, waiting on a VPS this week) - Individual Affiliate Program (for reviews on YouTube) - Site Affiliate Program - Social Media Marketing (I HATE this...) - Content Creation - Email Marketing With the little work I have done so far, basically two YouTube affiliates and some well-written articles, I am beginning to receive one order a day on average. My goals: By December 2013: one thousand/month gross By March 2013: two thousand/month By August: five thousand/month gross These goals, given I am ranking #1 for a few of the keywords I have, are very modest. I could see making ten thousand/month gross by this time next year. Let's make baby steps first though! I will be updating as frequently as possible, with Google Analytics tracking, number of orders received, and SE ranking (all in nice charts!). Sometime within the next few days, I will put together my daily outline for what I am doing, and I will commit to sticking to it. As of right now, I haven't done any link building aside from the linkbacks from my YouTube affiliates. Thanks for the read and I hope you enjoy following my journey!
