I thought I would start a serp journey thread to give newbies an inside look to what I am doing seo wise and using "mostly" BST. The purpose of this journey is to help newbies in their seo efforts and if they like my results, they can easily replicate them.
I am going to use mostly BST services and a few Fiverr. I will tell you exactly which services I use, how I use them and where I use them.
I will try to be as detailed as possible of what I am doing and how.
Website Details:
This particular website is an EMD. It is new a website. I built it back in January 2012, and it has been just sitting there aging.
The main website is a static html design, has only 2 adsense ads and 1 affiliate ad on it. It has 2 subdomains, one for a forum (phpbb), and another for a blog (wordpress).
The affiliate link is a php redirect, using nofollow and blocking the file through robots.txt.
No Google Analytics or WMT.
It has 56+ inner pages, but I am only going to be ranking 5 of them. The other pages will make their way to the front too, just not targeting them. They are easy to rank, and as my website gains authority, they will rise.
I won't be ranking the subdomains either. Atleast, not at this time, maybe down the road.
The 6 pages I will be ranking have 1000+ words and have a keyword density of less than 1%. Which I bought from BST, I will get to that in a few.
Here's a look at my keyword numbers, US Search Volume:
Main Root:
broad = 30,790,000
exact = 398,000
phrase = 13,876,000
Page 1:
broad = 450,000
exact = 3,600
phrase = 49,500
Page 2:
broad = 246,000
exact = 720
phrase = 9,900
Page 3:
broad = 11,1000,000
exact = 49,500
phrase = 9,140,000
Page 4:
broad = 4,090,000
exact = 301,000
phrase = 3,350,000
Page 5:
broad = 450,000
exact = 8,100
phrase = 74,000
As you can see, a very insane search volume and it's going to be very tough and time consuming to rank for.
Services Used Up Until Now & How I used Them
Mike2000 Article Writing: I bought a few articles from him. Each article was 1,000+ words and HAD to have a keyword density BELOW 1%. I wish he could offer more words than that, but oh well.
Twitter Retweets: I used this Fiverr gig on my main root and 2 inner pages. I used the title of the articles, using keywords as hashtags and using my raw url. I did not shorten my url for Twitter, they did it automatically through their system. I want Google to crawl the raw url, even though it is redirected.
The hashtags are used simply for getting additional retweets and traffic. I have good luck with this. I am always scrolling Twitter using hashtags, and many other people do too.
Facebook Likes:I used this gig on 2 of my inner pages only. Each share is pubically viewable and crawlable by Google.
I didn't do anything fancy with this. I just supplied them the url, and let Facebook naturally extract the details, which would have been the article title and a paragraph. I wanted this to look as natural as possible. If you go to Yahoo and share an article on Facebook, that's they way they do it.
Pinterest #1: I used this gig twice, for the main root and an inner page. I used a different image for each one. This will give me a nice raw url and image backlink.
Pinterest #2: I used this gig on only 1 inner page. I used a unique image for this inner page. I won't use the same image twice, always unique. As I stated above, it give me a nice raw url and image backlink.
wpbacklinks - Bookmarks: I used the High Quality 250+ Social Bookmarks for my main root and 2 inner pages.
For my main root, I used my DomainName.com for the title, used a couple sentences what it was about and used my keywords as the tags. I didn't want to use any keywords yet, so I used the brand name instead.
For the 2 inner pages, I used the title of the article, the first paragraph of it and used my keywords as tags. I replicated what Facebook does, when extracting articles.
I am purposely not targeting keywords. I don't want to yet. I want to start building a social buzz using the brand name and raw url. I don't want to go over a 50% keyword threshold. I am going to keep all my keywords below that threshold.
*** For the record, I do NOT own any of these services, promoting their services and/or being paid or special discounts to use them. I paid for these, just like everyone would have. ***
My Updates:
This will be an ongoing journey, long and slow. I will be updating weekly or so, on any movements, services that I use and how I implement them.
This will be a lengthy journey, because I am going to be doing this very slow and natural. I want this to stick, not be a fly by night. I am going to wait at least a few weeks in between BST services. I don't want to go too fast.
I hope my journey will help you and give you some insight on improving your own rankings.
So, kick back, relax, grab some popcorn and a beer, and see where this journey ends up.
