I'm running a handful of campaigns to try and get an exact URL ranked for a handful of keywords. The challenge is that I don't own the URL (think Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, iTunes, etc) so I can't monitor anything on webmaster tools, can only use tools to monitor SERP rank and such. Now here's my question, I wasn't ranked at all for most of the keywords and then after a few days in, I shot up to position #6 for one of my top keywords from literally like #294 (according to serpbook.com) and then the very next day, I was gone. This particular URL is for an iOS app so it's an itunes.apple.com etc link. The app did update and the reviews/stars in the meta-data reset. Could this have knocked me out of the position? That's the only thing that I can think of that could have hurt me. A couple days later I noticed I had shot back up to #2, and then several hours later I was gone. All the charts I've seen here for keyword rank have always shown very linear progression, maybe a small dip, but never a complete drop off. Even if I was flagged for doing some aggressive SEO, I doubt they could blacklist a top domain like itunes.apple.com I'm relatively new in the field and appreciate any insight.
