    Hey guys,

What is your experience changing servers and its effect on SERPs?
I've had sites change position dramatically before, just after a nameserver change, disappearing for a few days, and then coming back to normal/lower/higher.
So far I understand that changing server location can negatively/positively impact rankings - I plan to move the site from hostgator shared to a VPS in my own country, which logically should improve SEO.

Also I've read changes to DNS can change the authority of the site in the eyes of Google...

Clearly there are guys moving sites everyday here, so would like to know anyones opinion...

EDIT: additionally I understand I should change to a reputable IP range, so despite the cost of $30-50/month for a 1gb+ VPS with hostgator, do you think I should keep the upgrade with hostgator?

    Many thanks in advance!
