Seriously: If the SERPs become a social timeline, then SEO IS dead [for real]

This shit's going on right now: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/seos-afraid-images-googles-new-serp-layout-jake-greenwell

Your page content is gonna become part of a social network-like timeline format on the SERPs.

That's why they been testing those card-like search results.....

If this goes through then SEO is dead, for real.... not because you can no longer rank, but because even if you do rank nobody will get to your site : the content is consumed right there on the " timeline SERPs"....

This is seriously fucked up. Seriously, majorly, big time fucked up.

    ----

ADDED: Some time ago I noticed that my AMP pages got served straight from google.com...google was like a CDN distributing my content, without ads, without any images or logo or ID, just Google.com serving my content....that's exactly what this is about....you won't even know google is serving your content.

One more note: after I removed AMP my traffic soared.

Then I thought man AMP is bad for SEO! WRONG. The problem is my content was being served straight from Google itself....I never knew I had that traffic until I removed AMP....

The article says "SEO's be afraid. Images of Google's New SERP Layout."

That layout isn't "new". It's been around for several years now. Nothing to be surprised about there.

"The answer became perfectly clear when Google was testing a new interface design on me."

Again, nothing new. They've been "testing" these card layouts for a long time now. The author of that article is a joke if he thinks this new layout is "new" and that was enough reason for me to ignore the rest of his article.

I doubt Google is going to replace the entire SERP's with AMP compatible pages. Sure, it's a possibility that it could happen sometime in the future, but it won't be anytime soon since AMP was only "officially" launched 2 days ago. And even if that was the case, SEO isn't going to "die" completely - since AMP is for mobile. If anything, this just means that the desktop as a device/desktop traffic will continue to decline over time as more importance is given to AMP and mobile. At the end of the day, the #1 ranking factor will continue to be backlinks and I doubt that will change anytime soon. For Google to completely scrap that in favour for this "AMP/instant article" feature isn't something I see them doing. Just my opinion :)

    And not to forget:

That article is blatantly promoting his AMP creation service:

"This is one of the reasons I joined http://alphapages.io, understanding that the landscape of SEO will require automation tools to take on these emerging challenges makes me happy to pursue this endeavor.

Learn More how to instantly Google AMP your page at http://alphapages.io."

I'm not sure if the author of that article could have been any more salesy.

"And if you choose not to prepare your page for SERP interactions, your page won't show up at all."

Articles like these are designed to initiate fear. Create a sense of panic (which is what the author is trying to do) and then offer a solution to that panic (alphapages.io, which the author seems to own/be affiliated with).

Maybe I would have reacted to this article differently if it wasn't so salesy in its approach..

We're all fucked and if we wanna keep up we need to optimize our websites for AMP?

Question is, what the fuck is AMP & how can I get my wordpress theme to work with it

    Nope, more like TLDR;
"Omg apocalypse is coming but if you pay me $XXX i will give you eternal life"

It's like that one time this one dude 'predicted' that the world would end and then took money from people to ensure their place in heaven.

AMP is basically loading (mobile) webpages instantly. But this will definitely not save your page
from any mayhem that G has planned.

The layout has been around for years and they've been testing it, so yes it'll probably
go live sometime but then again, we've known that G is prioritizing on authority content
anyway so as long as you bring quality and not shitty moneycow sites with no real value,
you'll be fine for a looong time.

I noticed that this is happening more frequently.

People search and get their info right off the search results.

    No need to click through.

In the comments he said ".... Google current only does this for News articles but there are rumors that it will do this for Ecommerce mid-2017"

    What is AMP : https://www.wired.com/2016/02/googles-amp-speeding-web-changing-works/

I notice for my authority site not optimized at all for AMP show few H2 titles in addition to the H1 when I'm #1 for a medium/big volume keyword

You scared me as hell bartosimpsonio, after reading the Leith post I'm a bit relax but not too much we need to talk more about this!

Quite the contrary, if you want any traffic any more you need to avoid amp like the plague....

People will adopt amp and they'll get shown on the SERPs but there's no advantage for them because the traffic will never reach their site anyway...so why would I want my content to be a amp swipable card if it's just gonna feed Google's page and their ads?

What will happen here is they'll likely DEMOTE sites that don't comply, in the last step before completely putting all webmasters to work for Google for free or get the boot.

This is gonna fuck with 90% of the websites who depend on organic in any way, it's the end of the WWW as we knew it unless people abandon Google and some other search engine appears. But with idiots thinking Facebook IS the Internet what should we expect?

You guys are are overthinking it, AMP is a plus but not mandatory. Not all sites can integrate with AMP, backlinks are still king afterall.
