let give it few more weeks to see if there is any drop in rankings. Negative SEO does exist and this is something google should take care of.

Such smug people. Just because we prefer to automate things, we're bad guys.

It is somewhat satisfying to see these same people get pummeled from behind by Google's aggression.

Read the article carefully. The didn't necessarily get a penalty, they just got a message.

Matt Cutts said: "If you received a message yesterday about unnatural links to your site, don?t panic. "

What's really important is their traffic numbers which have remained unchanged.

Yeah, I bet this is what happened.

They saw the Unnatural link message in GWT. They Proceeded to Tell Cutts about it. Cutts realized oh shit and the implications this could have. Fixed it so they saw 0 drop in traffic and released something that said it's ok. Just to save their ass.

They think they are untouchable..... if people really wanted to due damage they would, its just the people that really know what they are doing are making money or putting time into things that will make money

Rand and Matt Cutts are very friendly, they chit chat together on twitter all the time so i'm damn sure that if things started to go very tits up for SEOmoz's search results then Google would need to fix it quick, because it would be a very high profile case study to go wrong for them. The biggest advocates of their ranking system get bitch slapped by the black hat community, they would never let that happen.

So as a test its fundamentally flawed, but should be fun to see how it pans out.

SEOMoz is whitelisted, so the NSEO efforts were a waste of time. Use the same tactics on a small mom and pop businesses and the results will be much different.

He who has the loudest voice is heard. No matter how many small businesses scream, they will never be heard as loudly as those that are in bed with Google.

The SEOMoz challenge was great link bait though. :)

Yes, but they weren't penalized. Basically these notices are now a heads up that Google detected bad links pointing to your site. It can give you a heads up about negative SEO or that you need to lay off some aggressive linkbuilding.

I dunno to me it's very interesting.

There's a place that should have been penalized and received a loss in traffic like the rest of us.

but instead to save face, and not make themselves look bad google did nothing to them. While the rest of us for the exact same thing that can happen we would be fucked.

Just goes to show ya even more what a shitty company google is.

If even SEOmoz is vulnerable to unnatural link warnings, can you imagine what kind of odds the rest of the internet is up against? Google needs to do away with the entire system of "unnatural link warnings" or penalties and get back to what they used to do, which is devalue links. It's the only way to keep some integrity in the SEO game.
