Hi BHW members,
If you’re working with a limited budget or just starting out, do you think it’s better to invest in SEO or SMM first? SEO gives long-term traffic, but SMM offers quicker visibility and engagement. I’d love to hear how you prioritize and balance these two strategies in your campaigns.

SEO is better as it give you organic traffic , but most SMM are not real

hanks for your input! I agree that SEO has the advantage of delivering organic and sustainable traffic when done right. It’s like planting seeds that grow over time.

However, I think SMM can also be powerful when used strategically. While some SMM services might not provide real engagement, others—like well-targeted ads or campaigns on platforms like TikTok or Instagram—can drive genuine interactions and conversions.

What’s your take on combining both strategies? For example, using SMM to drive initial traffic while building SEO for long-term results? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Exactly! SMM can work like a catalyst while the SEO efforts are maturing. I’ve seen this strategy work well, especially when launching new products or websites. For example, running targeted social ads can drive quick traffic, and the user behavior data from these campaigns can help refine SEO strategies, like which keywords to target or content to prioritize.

Do you have any favorite SMM platforms or tools that work particularly well for generating that initial traffic?

SMM if you need to see traffic coming right now and SEO you need to work on it so that you can later rely on organic traffic. Both have their own advantage. If you are willing to wait for the site to rank, then invest in seo services

Absolutely, I couldn’t agree more—both strategies have their unique advantages depending on the goals and timeline. For immediate visibility or launching a campaign, SMM is hard to beat. And as you said, SEO is a longer-term investment that pays off with consistent organic traffic.

Out of curiosity, when you’re working on SEO, do you prioritize on-page optimization, link building, or content creation first?

Here's what I follow:

1>Content quality
2> On page SEO
3> Link

The first two are equally important. But if I have to put it in an order, that's how I'd put it. Building links organically is very important for the results to show. One can have thousands of link and still not rank or worse, rank for a while and then get penalized. If it's a site you plan on working for a longer period, try to stick with WH methods only. Undoing the damage of BH can be more difficult. Good luck.

Asides backlinks acquisition, most other aspects of SEO don't require you to spend money unless you want to outsource the tasks.

I never recommend a business to prioritize one form of marketing over the other. What matters in my opinion is the target goal. If SMM would help you start making profit immediately, isn't it the go to choice?

With SEO you can do everything and let your site gradually grow on its own without spending much money at the beginning.

You’ve made some great points, and I completely agree—it all comes down to the target goal and what’s most effective for achieving it. SMM is definitely the go-to when quick results and immediate profits are needed, especially for new businesses or product launches.

That said, I think a hybrid approach works well for many businesses. For example, starting with SMM to generate initial traffic and revenue, while gradually building SEO for long-term growth. Even with minimal upfront investment, focusing on content and on-page optimization can set the foundation for organic traffic.

If you're on a limited budget, start with SEO for long-term, sustainable traffic while using low-cost SMM strategies for quick visibility. Balancing both ensures immediate engagement and builds lasting growth.

Obviously, doing both simultaneously is the best. But you talked about being budget constrained.

SEO is simply the best because you get organic traffic. SMM only gets you so far because you can't have infinite followers. I would suggest a mix of both.
