    Hey blackhatters.

Im not sure if the title is misleading but I wanted to get some opinions.

For instance, if someone was to start a brand new website and do seo to get to rank 1 of google. (lets take for example a medium keyword to rank for)

    Would it be better to:

1)Try to get the EMD if available, if not, then contact webmasters that do have EMD's and see if you can buy their website and domain name?

    Or

2)Just purchase a domain name that is not EMD
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

If I wanted to try to contact a webmaster that has the EMD then I know I would try to persuade them to sell me their EMD but would the extra money be worth the SEO benefit of having an EMD?

In this case, I know domain age is important, but another benefit I see from buying an EMD from a webmaster (if they do sell it to you) is that the domain has already older then If I was to register a new domain name today that is not EMD.

Sorry, I know its long but I wanted to get your thoughs/opinions and I hope everyone can benefit from this.

You are probably going to get more benefit from the domain age than from the EMD. Personally I thought for a long time that they are overrated. I have done some testing (small scale) of

    keyword.com
    domain.com/keyword

And have not really found that much difference in how much work it takes to get a site ranked. Age however seems to make more of a difference and if it has been used for a related or the same topic the difference it probably even more pronounced.

I always try to acquire the EMD and see what it will cost. Been lucky to get some that eventually expired too.
Depending on how many exact searches will determine how much I'll pay for the domain.
Usually wouldn't spend more than $300. And I don't even know if I would spend more than $100 today with EMD juice gone down.
And would depend on your budget. If you only have a few hundred to spend, than it's not worth it in my opinion.

    Alright.
But what if the keyword had 100,000+ exact monthly searches?

Would that change your minds and try to acquire an EMD?

EMD will rank faster that is for sure, but geting EMDhelp.com or EMDinfo.com will rank just as well but it may take a tad bit longer.

I think I would go after the EMD, but then again it would probably cost a pretty penny. Either way just pick a side and go with it. I bet either choice will work well.

    Good replies here guys.

If their is a domain like:
    EMD101.com
    EMD411.com

An emd with numbers, is that still good at providing you with seo benefits?

What if the domain is long but has EMD included in it?
    eg. keyword: lose weight

    howtoloseweightfast.com
    howyoucanburnandlostweight.com
    loseweightandburnfast.com

Would these domains still provide seo benefit since the keyword (lose weight) is in it, even though it is long?

It will definitely provide a positive seo benefit to your site.
I remember reading before the golden rule was anything under 35 characters. After that you are probably going to see a negative impact.
For your site though, those are not too long.
