I am talking here about a serious issue, a new medically unexplored form of addiction: SERP Addiction.

    The belief of many:

    • I invest money in better rankings
    • I invest my time in better rankings
    • This results will result in wealth

From talking with many guys here by skype and not at least from investigating my own inner processes I experienced that an unbelievable amount of money is wasted in this field and you can quickly loose the clear view on your ROI. I just calculated how much I spent here on ranking services in comparison to my GA Conversion stats and man, I could have saved grands over grands as my most conversions aren't coming from organic traffic - I have so many untapped sources and better fields to invest.

I really believe that many people over here get addicted in observing their rank trackers, refreshing a thousand times a day, not to miss a single movement of the SERPs. I talked much about that with my girlfriend (which studies psychology) and she thinks that there is growing a connection between your self confidence and the search engine positions. Do you feel well when you rankings shoot up with an overwhelming feeling of some kind of might? Do you feel depressed when your rankings go down the river?

Seriously: Not the SERP results are important - They are piece of nothing, if nothing comes in return it just pushes your ego (and if you are BST buyer you didn't even contribute yourself to that rankings) - heck, even tons of organic traffic means NOTHING if it does not convert. Sure there are keywords that are worth millions, but they wont help you with a non CROptimized website for optimal ROI.

All I want to say, is really - many of your beliefs in "investing money in rankings" are shammed reasons for egopushers to see the ranks go up.

    Check yourself!

+1 I fully agree with you and I see so many people struggle before I start project I make sure I have a converting website and then I will start building ranks. you don't start running a marathon and train the day after.. doesn't make sense you first need to make sure you can handle what you want

Every SEOer have this obsession. If you have money invest in paid traffic. I think that will give you better peace of mind because everything is under your control. That's what i am starting to do now, i will give seo 10-20% of my working schedule.

Thats a good quote. I went for vehemes service and did drop everything else beside that regarding SEO. Correct setup Adwords campaigns are much more effective than seo'ing every single keyword

Totally agree with the OP. It's the same when checking affiliate stats many times a day, you get a buzz when you see your amount going up, but feel disheartened when not much is happening. Stupid really because it' the end of the month that counts! Definately the same when checking Serps too.

    Absolutley correct ardvark!
I also check the revenue of my main business late at night and come home from office with heads down when the day was not that good as I expected. But the only thing that counts is what your bank account says at the end of the month,

I have never thought about that actually, but I remember 10 months ago, when my first website in which I put a lot of effort dropped from 1st page to nowhere, I was feeling really bad and kind of depressed, totally true.
