I had a noob question. So please bare with me.

I wanted to know if a person buys a brand-new domain (1 month old). Inside that domain you the keyword exists. The key word has VERY low results for this keyword (broad match: 645 pages, exact match: 4 pages with nofollow links). If the domain has no back-links accounted for but the search term is being search upon a lot can it reach to the number 1 position in google?. I always thought back-links allowed domains to reach the top of Google search results. Please correct me if i am wrong.

The amount of times that a word is searched for doesn't affect the rankings of an individual page, if that's what you are asking.

lots of searches with little competition means keyword will be easier to rank for.
