I've been analyzing a few clients search engine positioning and google is making it so tough and annoying these days. Does anyone have any experience with this and if so what do you give your clients for reports.

    SERP POSITONS

    Location Home w/ main keyword

    IE
    position
    #5

    FF
    position
    #4

    chrome
    position
    #4

Friends location (10 miles away) same keyword

    IE
    Position
    #39

    Chrome
    Position
    #39

    FF
    Position
    #39

Yes we both cleared cache , history, exed and are not including local results as positions.

Instead of going to www.google.com, get the IP address for google.com first and then go to that in your browser and search. Use the same IP to search at your friends. It sounds like different data centres are being hit, or something in the query is skewing the results, so keep it simple like below:

    http://111.222.333.444/search?q=my+website&gl=us&pws=0&filter=0

Of course, replace the 111.222.333.444 with the actual IP address for google.com and my+website with whatever keyword (ensure you use + instead of spaces).

Now use the exact same on your friend's PC.

Oh, this checks us rankings. So, if it's not US rankings you want to check then replace us with the relevant country code.

Anyway, the differences between data centres will eventually settle down. It's normal. :)

    Good luck!

EDIT: Forgot to add the disabling of personalised search. This can REALLY skew results!

Just to add, if you use the above URL (with the right IP address and keywords) then it will search file that when you type something in the search box instant search will be used, so you best disable it at:

    http://www.google.com/preferences
