Hello Everyone, the other day I was reading an article about SEO and I related myself so much with the article and I think it was because I am not a computer guru and I always struggled with SEO myself.
So, I consider myself as a beginner too as I am sure a lot of people will also identify themselves with and feel in the same situation.
So, and in order to help the SEO newbies, I have put together a quick list (step by step list if you want to call it) on SEO for completely new beginners.
As a beginner we need to understand that there is no magic solution or magic way to rank websites in the first page on Google or any other search Engine. Every single search engine is rules by complex algorithms and for any new web site it takes a lot of time and effort to demonstrate Google that your website has merits to be on top of their raking pages.
However, there are some rules you can apply in order to optimize your ranking.
But, this is easier said than done and as much as we read to many articles and blogs about SEO tips and advice, all we read is theories about SEO and never a very good practical advice.
However, if you really feel that you need to read something, I highly recommend “The Complete SEO Guide – A Step by step on how to increase your traffic in 60 days or less”. Save your time reading anything else. What you will find reading the above article I have recommended are SEO tips that actually works and really tested results tested and proven by people, and this what we all newbies need. Reassurance that the methods will finally work and give you proper results.
Having said that, there are always many things we can do to help our web site achieving a good Google ranking but the SEO tips I will give below will give you a good base to start with and it is 100% safe to use.
A. Add Page Titles and Page description
For me, this comes right on top of my list hence the reason I listed as first item.
When I say page title I mean that each of your web site page should have a unique page title which represents your page and not something random. Remember to be simple, short but descriptive and this will help other people to actually understand what your page is about.
Page description is also very important for Google ranking and a good advice for writing good page description is to always try to provide a unique description for your page. Do not write long paragraphs, keep to a maximum of 150 characters. Avoid repetition but focus on how do you want to advertise your page.
B. Permanent link structure
For those who have no idea what “permanent link structure” is, the permanent link structure is a term used to describe the format of URLS for pages (categories/tags) or individual posts of a web site.
So, my simple Tips are: make your Url simple and easy to understand. Make sure you use hyphens to separate the words, avoid long and unnecessary information that will not add any value to it and make sure you use words that will describe your page.
C. Breadcrumb
When I first came across this term, I really thought that I had to go in the kitchen and cook something. LOL
I was so wrong, actually breadcrumb is a set of links at the top of the page that aid navigation and you are able to find plugins that are able to create breadcrumb for you.
So, ensure that you have a breadcrumb on all your internal pages.
D. Internal links
Internal links are links in a page that will link to other pages within the website. You can use anchors to achieve this as well. Internal links are extremely important for raking your web site on Google but a lot of people do not know how to correct make use of this feature.
Few tips are: make links by using keywords anchor text, link useful content easy to search and understand, avoid using things like “click here” and do not overdo.
Well, these are my tips for part 1 SEO Newbies for today.
I will continue with this blog part 2 SEO Newbies so hang in there for more tips and advice on SEO.
