Well backlinks can be guaranteed. Increased page rank can probally be garunteed. One thing to remember is that no one can guarantee a #1 listing. It is possible but not definite. Any one that is telling you that is either lying or using some extremely black hat methods, which will work, but in the long run probally get you banned from google.

well, I guess when many of the seo companies that say they guarantee you on the first page of SE, I am pretty sure they do not mean permanently.

I believe all the bhw members do know that SEs are constantly changing and the key is really to keep up with this and stay on top of the game

They say that will get you to first serp but they dont say how long you stay their.they are not lying they are just not telling you the complete truth.

As for first position,it can never be guranteed.google is constantly updated it serp algo to whack out spammers and other people,so its quite difficult.

They also aren't telling you for what keyword phrase you will be ranked number one for.

It's quite easy to grab number one for long tail phrases no one searches for. It's quite another thing to even get on the first page for competitive words like florida jobs or buy cialis.

They also don't always specify whether it will be the organic results you will be number one for. You can get on the first page for a short time for most phrases by issuing a press release and there's isn't any keyword you can't buy a front page spot.

Still another detail often missing is which search engine's first page you will be on.

In my opinion, the only guarantee that should matter when evaluating an SEO is an increase in organic search traffic.

You can make an argument that conversions are ultimately all that matters, but I don't think you can hold an SEO responsible for your site not converting.
