Let's say my website is a revision website and the domain is like: www.chemistrypapers.com , so the homepage is optimized for keywords like : chemistry papers, revise chemistry etc. Now my inner pages contain these papers. E.g. www.chemistrypapers.com/paper1 is also optimized for the same keyword - chemistry paper. This is bad for seo because I'm bassically ranking two pages for the same keywords. My link profile also looks ridiculous like 650 links, 600 of which point to the main page. Even the natural links that I get point to my homepage instead of the inner pages. Now the question is, should I deindex the inner pages for better rankings of my homepage? I will now manually build links to the inner pages without anchor text. I could also forget about ranking my homepage ( it's ranking #5 already, inner pages aren't in the top 100 ) and start focusing on my inner pages instead. I will have to change keywords for my homepage to Chemisty Revison England, and optimize the inner page for Chemistry Papers, etc. What would be an effective strategy? My top competitor is ranking the inner pages. The second competitor is ranking the homepage.
