My friend was recently boasting about the amount of results Google shows when he Googles himself.

I couldn't help myself; I created a stupid .tk site of his name (first and last), set it to redirect to NAMBLA (North American Man/Boy Love Association), SEO'd it pretty well, and submitted it to Digg and Del.icio.us.

It was indexed in about two days and is now the #1 result when you search his name.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Funny yet sad that it's that easy to potentially ruin someone. Imagine if you did really dislike him and wanted to hurt him. A couple photos and a few tidbits of personal facts on that site and he's f'ed. Every future job interview, possible future girlfriend, friend or co-worker that g00gles him finds that. The lifelong repercussions are potentially huge from about an hours worth of effort on your end. I guess maybe it's in the grand plan to keep us all treating people good so they don't screw us like that.

LOL that is the most horrible thing to do to your friend. Hope you changed the redirect by now. I would hate to be your enemy if you treat your friends like that.....by the way......how many times have you actually looked at Nambla to memorize the web address or even have it on hand?????? That is the real question who really just says that or does that. And of all the crappy things online Nambla??? WTF???? Man talk about a sicko..... ewww

Its just a bit of friendly banter its not like he put anything up his friends picture there, i thought it was a hilarious idea.

I agree with bobfrapples with the fact that you could have made something really damaging to someone with so little effort

You are bad. Don't destroy his reputation. Next time you want to pull this kind of joke just redirect for the friend's IP address only. You can prank him without destroying his future, dude.

Some friend you are. This might be amusing for 14 year olds but for any adult, this could have serious repercussion for him. Doesn't matter whether it's true or not, just hinting at it could affect his reputation.

It isn't any surprise that a lot of recruitment agencies will do background checks and in some cases, google your history on the internet.

Grow up and take the site down and use your energy on something more positive. Just because many people share the name isn't any excuse to do this. If it were me, I'd be seeking legal advice to pursue you for slander.

I can see nothing really wrong with that, unless SEO is wrong.

And if recruitment agencies and employers do background checks and believe things like this are detrimental, well, that's their possible mistake, they might be losing out on a good employee for just a prank like this.

Of course, if it's insulting then you have a point, but anyway, the "victim" can hire a SEO (like me) and sort things out!

Still, I wouldn't like this happen to me...
