I just started up a new EMD site. I did about 2 hours of manual white hat stuff to get it kicked off. Then just as I'm about to fire up my SEO tools and start mass creating my Tier 1s and Tier 2s... I check G and I'm at #4.

The site is only 2 days old. Already getting some traffic and making a lil revenue. Now if I was to BH this site, I might get to #1 very fast but would risk a big penalty.

Even if my site dances (I've retained and improved initial rankings before, but you need to act fast because the "new site bump" is short), I will be at #1 within the month with just easy white hat stuff. If I get a few guest posts, I'll have it locked up.

Just some advice: Start off white hat, if that doesn't get you to where you want to be, grey hat it up, and then just keep getting blacker and blacker. If that doesn't work, on to the next one. There are still BH sites clearly ranking, but lots are getting picked off, and more will in the future. There is a lot of spots open right now with crappy top 10 comp, because the previous top 10 is penalized. All you need is a little WH in a lot of these niches, combined with good onsite. Don't start off with BH unless it's an in-and-out operation, like a replica site or movie site.

    great advice

these days you dont really need as much emphasis out of the gate to see rankings. slow and steady is the best strategy.

Looks like there is no more need for the Blackhat section then. Time to merge this forum with the Whitehat forum? Of maybe just redirect this forum over to Warrior Forum?

Ya, even I was wondering, what exactly were those white hat work? Did you make web 2.0 manual posting or something else?

Just felt the need to say this - the line between white hat and black hat is a very thin line, and its definition differs from person to person.

I manually made an account with Digg, Reddit, and few other big SB sites. I made a Twitter, YouTube, and FB account. I posted a unique article to a few web 2.0s. And I did some manual comments on high PR low OBL blog posts.

G rewards "freshness" and new sites sometimes get an artificial bump in the rankings. And if your click-thru and bounce rate is good, and you secure high quality links fast, you can retain these rankings.

3 million results, top 3 sites are targetting the subniche I'm going for. Most sites are about the wider niche.

    6k exact match searches.

Very true. Even Matt Cutts talked about new sites being able to rank better in a video

    Hi mate,

White hat is the only way to go now. SPAM would not take you anywhere long term. We have clients 3 years old and they are still topping all the keywords even after panda + penguin. Just keep going with white hat links only. Dont get stressed up, results will come for sure if you follow google rules.

    Regards

    Vince G

Life is easier with nonsense like this. You have the edge on Google its not the other way around. The moment you forget that is the moments you decide to leave the big money on the table to throw some pennies in a piggy bank.

The future of BH seo is in undetected PBNs and fake guest posts. But if your goal is long term, anything that's BH and undetected can eventually be detected. And the amount of work to go undetected is producing diminishing returns, to the point where the same amount of time on WH will get better results.

You used to be able to do BH and rank long term. That's going to be less and less possible.

You can still scale "white hat" seo, i.e. mass mailing blog owners about guest posts, paying people to manually comment, etc... and make bank. Basically, grey hat.
