    HELLO!

I am new around here, but I'm gonna stick around. Brilliant site!!

I have recently (4 months ago) been employed to do SEO for a playground installation company. I am completely new to SEO and was employed due to past experience in other areas (no need to bore you!). Anyway... we have increased in rankings in a few terms since I started but now I feel like I'm stuck. One day we've gone up one, the next we've gone down 2, then the next we've gone up 3, then down 3 etc etc. There is no consistent moving upwards, just sort of floating around the same areas now. I have done extensive research and feel like I'm on my way to becoming good at my job (thankfully my boss agrees!) but obviously I am being payed to increase google results, and monthly reviews need to show this is happening "SEO takes time" isn't what my MD wants to hear!

    The things I am doing:
Daily blogging on current installations taking place.
Rewriting bad product descriptions (removing duplicate content and adding more content to poorly worded ones).
Using keyword density of about 3-5% but trying to focus more on writing good content and stories.
Using screaming frog to find and remove duplicate content in meta descriptions and titles.
    Active tweeting, increasing followers rapidly!

Our competitors don't seem to be doing ANYTHING that I am not doing, and it totally baffles me why some of them rank higher than us. Their content is rubbish!

This is not a weak attempt at building a link... but if people wouldn't mind having a quick look over the site to see if they have any suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated. espplay . co . uk

    Thanks in advance.
    Matt

    Hi Matt,

The on-site SEO looks pretty good. You have two meta description tags on the homepage though, no meta keywords tag. You could probably do with a little more content on the homepage.

I'd work on building some more backlinks. The backlink profile isn't too bad (you have a lot of natural, semi-authoritative backlinks) but just not much diversity in terms of domains/IPs. A large percentage of the backlinks come from the same domains. Get some backlinks from YouTube videos, blog comments, HQ article diretories, Web 2.0 properties etc.

Did you submit the site to directories like yahoo or best of the web?

I think he meant don't be a masochist and get some people to help you out. I read up a blogger's post (last year pre-panda) comparing SERP performance from UAW, BMR and 3 other services, plus manual SEO work, and basically, he found that doing things manually didn't get him anywhere (he stopped doing it sometime in the middle of his test)

I'd be writing more content and getting it out there about the company

article directories / press releases / web 2.0 / wikis / bookmarking / guest posting

and then build some links to that content

next I would take the links and put them through my social media accounts.

pinterest / youtube / twitter / facebook -- you really just want the widest possible way
to have your material out there -- even if some things are less effective than others - because
you just never know what the next Google Update would bring.
