    Hello,

When it comes to white hat SEO for large business's how many links per day is the SEO'er looking to build?
I completely understand that quality IS king when it comes to white hat seo, but after spending a lot of time looking into the backlink portfolios of many large 'local' websites for various places around the world, I can't really see how they are ranking for some of the words that they are.

Also is it common practice in 'white hat' SEO to build backlinks to a natural backlink from another website as to increase the value of it?

I am not doing this at all but I am just interested to hear from someone who may have had experience in this as I am just trying to learn as much as possible and it's better I ask than to speculate, any answers would be great!

The big companies are doing shittons of blackhat seo. I wouldn't know where to draw the line.

There is no exact link per day limit for link building at all, whether your talking about doing local, national, international or corporate SEO. The amount of links you need to build depend on thousands of factors.

A few of these factors are:
    - competitiveness of given term(s)
    - existing strength of link portfolio
    - strength of link portfolio compared to competitors
    - desired ranking speed
    - anchor ratios

Thanks for the replies so far

If you don't mind, would you be able to give a fictitious example?
I completely understand that it is not as simple as saying x amount for x and there is a lot of varying factors, but a rough guideline would be great.

large companies target more than 1000s of keywords! means, more competition, more work and more resources required.

What i feel is to make separate list of all the keywords, put them in individual categories, assign 10 keywords to each guy and tell him to work on ranking it. That's how i would do. He will be responsible for all the work to make those keywords rank. content writing, submissions, link building, smo etc.

I personally meet with large companies owner and all are providing blackhat work to clients because these companies have bundle of work but have no time to do it. So beware about big companies if you want that your website perform well in search engine.
