Matt cutts stated that links in press releases might not have a direct seo benefit but, if your read http://www.seoconsult.com/seoblog/links-in-press-releases-dont-help-your-seo-this-test-proves-they-do.html its proven otherwise.

What can you rank matt cuts blog for? lol

How good is that LOL. Which just goes to prove that Cutts is either a complete tosser who doesn't know what he's talking about or a liar. Actually it's probably both

    This is pretty lulz.

I wonder if Matt will see this on search engine land and take a closer look at how they are ranking client sites though!

I didn't mean to creep you out, sorry about that.

I was just expressing a concern I would have if I was them. Given the fact that it is an SEO agency, with some of their clients no doubt linking to them in footer links and others easily found on the client page. I wouldn't want to risk getting webspam's attention through something like this, that's all.

Yeah, the stuff about PRs not working was complete and utter bullshit, I've been using them for sometime now and they consistently perform well. Matt's full of $hit.

Matt Cutts just likes to stir up shit. That is why he can't and won't beat BH Seo. Google is losing the plot.

One can almost assume that the opposite of what Matt Cutt says is the actual truth.

The test isn't that conclusive because there are no other websites linked with the same anchor text thus it's like being the only fish in the ocean. Search results are all based on relevance, and links provide a better clue even though they can be gamed on a certain level. It doesn't matter if it's a press release or not.

Why isn't anyone jumping on this opportunity to sell something, call it free promotion and start ranking for "sreppleasers" you'll get some targeted traffic in the seo niche :)

Anyway great promotion strategy for "seo consult"

P.S. A little bit unfair for searchengineland to be ranked 1st although another company created the buzz...don't you think?

    Interesting read, thanks for sharing.

However, IMO, instead of doing paid PR submissions, it would be better to use that money elsewhere, like: Getting content written for you and using it for Guest posts. The link from a context relevant blog might hold more value than a PR link and will give real visitors too.

Read what Matt Cutts have to say on all the cr@p he says every time. It's his Disclaimer too, so he's trying to save his a$$ for every thing he would say or write:

    Code:
    http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/disclaimer/
    Read his answer to:
"Q: Why are you doing this now?"

    P.S.:
And he wrote that Disclaimer in Dec. 2005. So he knew then that he was going to say a lot of stupid (read: misguiding) thing after that.

    P.P.S.:
He actually says so in his reply to comments:

    Quote:
Having a disclaimer post will let me reference that when I want to go out on a limb about something that I feel strongly about, but which is unrelated to Google.
    :Unquote.

So don't expect all his word to be a top Expert's words, especially when he is talking about SEO and such high-quality stuff. May be he's great on cat topics...

That was a test done 5 months back. Right?

What is your experience with press release after the Penguine 2 update?

Ranking him for a word that doesn't even exist...

Ooooohhhh so fucking hards. How did they even do this with the massive amount of competition they will face.

Matt Cutts did not say Press Release links would not help your rankings.

He said "do not expect links from press release sites to help your rankings."

The distinction is that a bunch of so called pres release sites have sprung up offering "press release services" that are simply link farms that post any press release they are sent. These are useless now.

But a real press release that gets picked up by the press will certainly help your rankings because they are real backlinks from sites who think your news is worth publishing.

A real press release organization will kick back some "press releases" as too commercial, and not newsworthy.

Can't we just agree cutts is full of shit and no SEO should ever take his word as gospel.

    He is a cunning man.

Ranking for a term with no search volume is worthless. It can be done with a bunch of no follow links or links from a deindexed blog network.
