    Hello!

I was using an SEO company for a few backlinks about 12 months ago. After 6 months I realized that the links and the service were not very good, so I canceled working with them.

A month later they hit me with an invoice (aprox £900) saying that they had continued with my work (although I canceled). After many heated emails i sent them the money just to get them off my case as they started emailing my clients, plus I was worried about any nasty SEO tactics they may do to my sites - which they threatened.

    This was in August.

Today I get an email telling me they never received the payment - although they said they had back in August! I know what is coming next. Threats to send spam to my site. Threats to remove the backlinks they built for 6 months (and to be fair to them - got me fairly good results).

My question is, what do I do? I know the main guy is probably reading this right now as he sells he services on here. Is there anyway i can tell Google to forget any spam that hits my site over the next few weeks? Is there any central web agency that can stop these guys?

This is terrible that people are so pathetic they turn to untrustworthy behavior...

    THANKS!

If he sells services on here, shitlist him. He gets banned (if "convicted"), clients will know their tactics and they lose money. Sure you may get your site nuked in the process, but you'll just continue to be extorted if you give in now. Give them an inch, they take a mile.

Tell them that you will use the Google Webmaster Tools Disavow Tool to prevent any spammy links from being counted, so if they do decide to, they'll only be wasting their own time and money, and no one elses. Furthermore, inform them that even if they attempt to, you will open a thread here at BHW (and BHW threads rank pretty well), naming and shaming their company and username, which will then require them to invest even more time and money on reputation management.

Even if its not a seller here, send them a link to the thread and tell them they are about to be outed on the most respected IM forum on the web.

I trust you have kept records of all discussions and most importantly your notification that you wished to cease using there service. If you have this and the story is as you are telling it then they dont have a leg to stand on.

Just open a thread stating teh company name in the title. Then rank that thread for his companies name. That would be enough to threaten them as anyone who searches their company name on Google will also come to know the real face of it.

Call your local constabulary and report them for extortion, and put their name out publicly here, so we will know not to use them.

Anyone who builds links for you then removes them when you cease their services are guilty of fraud. You paid for their services, they built the links, the links are yours.

Above all, tell us who they are.

Have you considered disavow link tool?
    if they put some nasty links about you, disavow the nasty links and send a reconsideration request to google , describing all situation;

    also what you can do:
    email his clients of the "SEO philosophy" of this guy;
name him here, so perhaps you warn a few people before they make a bad decision ;)

If you're on the right side of this nasty world, you will be backed by BHWers. No wonder, this is BHW but not a scam supporting world or here good, experimental IMers, not the roaches that wants to feed on someone else's pie being lazy. Just a few hours and bang, your shitlist thread will be 1st on Google, just use their main keywords and company name in the title and done.

File a police report. Also make a thread here. Their business name will be on the front page of a google search and their name will be mud.

    Hi,

Thanks so much for your replies! I am not going to stand for this.

I have now contacted the police here in the UK. They said there is not much they can do but if/when they threaten they will contact they relevant fraud department in India, where they are based. I also have their address which helps. There is a huge initiative here combating cyber crime and the UK police dedicate a lot of resources for it, which is great news.

They are visiting me tomorrow so I can make a statement.

I paid for the links - they are mine. I paid them - I have evidence from the bank.

Although its not the same thing, I just read about a 2 people who may be sentenced to 30 years in jail in India because they committed internet fraud against US citizens. WIN.

the moment they threat you by sending spam links, business is over and war has begun

out their names, this is unheard of... you aint the maffia or something...

it just makes me sad and happy that there are still people out there who are dumb enough to try stuff like this. it makes me sad because it is a dissapointment, on the other hand it amuses me how stupid and ignorant people can be.

you HAVE to out these people

the concept "long term" is completely disregarded here LOL

They got you fairly good results, but the links and service were not very good? That sounds contradictory.

But other members have given you solid advice. I'm impressed you even paid 900 pounds after you cancelled the service. That is just too generous?

I'd suggest that you open a proper shitlist thread and name the company. We can help you in a much better way that way. The police would of course help you locally and internationally if the shitlisted person is exposed by more victims. The offline case would become more stronger. If the police are meeting you tomorrow, then opening the thread now is recommended as you'd get a lot of help, and even may get the person's location, real name, etc.

That would even help our own members who may already be on his target, or unfortunately like yourself are his victims already.

Get his name on the shitlist. If anyway your site gets hit with malicious code or whatever, he would be the first suspect. The IT related laws are getting a lot tougher even in India. They would become reality soon. So even not caught now, he would be on their list especially with an international Police sending a complaint about him to their Indian counterparts.

He would be really scared to do any further harm... it would be his undoing.

This is the logical progression of "reputation management"

You know who handles "reputation management" offline, also known as buying protection?

    You know who.

Same game online, same rules too. Find their site, burn it to the ground. Then extort them.
