i recently started an SEO Business online , mainly focusing on LOCAL SEO.
i found some businesses online around my area and emailed them telling them what my business is all about and what services i can offer to them, sadly i have received no replies back :/

I would likes some advice if possible on methods/techniques i can implement to hook in some clients, i try not to call in businesses because most of the time their PA answers and don't let the call go to the owner of the business. so i prefer emailing them

    Any advice will be appreciated.

Local = Move your ass and go where they are. Forget about email, you can use it as a warm up but that's that. Check out 7878's method for targeted physical mail if you're too shy. But keep in mind, that while physical mail can work very well it is an art not to be taken lightly, so at your stage, you really should move your butt out of the chair.

You also need to have a sales script. Script doesn't mean you're going to be reciting a poem like a monkey, think of it as a plan. The value of your service that you need to communicate to your prospects. What their objections can be and how you will address them.

Solid information mailing does work good if you can write letters that will convert the client.

I don't have too much experience with providing SEO services. But I know it can definitely be hard to solicit services to businesses.

My suggestions would be to maybe try a different approach. Instead of emailing them telling them what your business is about, maybe send them a straight-up sales pitch. Like the first thing they see is something along the lines of getting their website to the top of Google and then going into some facts/statistics about business owners and how it can help them generate sales.

I know for some SEO companies when they are making a sale, they tend to ask questions like "How much do you make per sale/service?". So say if the company was a plumbing business and they make $100 for every customer they provide the plumbing service to. Then the SEO salesperson would explain that with this SEO service for $XXX you could get your money back if our service gets you atleast $X amount of sales.

In regards to contacting the business owners too. You might possibly have better luck getting their contact information via whois lookup. Sometimes they might have domain privacy, but the email address should still work and forward through to the whois contact.

You need to make a personal connection and establish a relationship. Dive into their business and see HOW they make their money and then develop a plan to help them. The days of saying "Our $500 Gold SEO packages gets you 599 social bookmarks, 50 Web 2.0s, 250 FB shares, etc" are done. Local businesses have been fucked and scammed one too many times.

Figure out holes in the businesses online marketing, fix them, and they will pay you whatever you command. The key here is your service needs to deliver and you need to be able to show them how and how much your service helped. Conversion tracking, call tracking - it's all about the revenue and ROI. A ranking report doesn't mean shit.

Does a business owner want to hear "we have you ranking #1 on Google for 10 terms" (that don't deliver any return) or do they want to hear "your monthly revenue is up $6,000 this month and you customer acquisition cost is down 12%" - simply put you need to be able to deliver and show results.

Then you create case studies to show potential customers. If you call them and say "I want to talk to you about SEO" you aren't going to get anywhere - but if you call and say "we just increased Dinbleberry Dave's flower shop's revenue by 200% - would you be interested in hearing how we can deliver similar results for your business?" You are going to get some interest.

This is brilliant and so true! Thanks net, i hear what you saying ...absolutely especially with what businesses want to get in return is the profit objective met and a high ROI.

Have you ranked anything? Build and rank a few sites.

Rank your site for a longtail, or do SEO for someone you know for free so you can show them you can rank.

Once people know you get results, they will call you. Canvassing for customers is fine, but start building your portfolio now.

Forget emailing the businesses. It never works. If they are local, get out there and talk to them face to face. Show them what they are missing out on and the revenue they are losing if they do not improve their SEO. You can always try out 7878's method which involves snail mail. It allows businesses to see the missing holes in their business.

Have you also attempted to sell a package? Let's say not all of the businesses have a site, you could offer a website design, SEO package and a reputation management all in one for a decent price.

    To your success,
    GothamSEO.

Do not take this personal, but if you emailed them the way you have wrote this post, I am not surprised no one got back to you. To look like a pro you have to have perfect English writing skills, it makes all the difference.

I found that once you get 2 or 3 clients, develop a strong, professional relationship with them, perform exactly what you say you're going to do (and do a good job of it), it allows you to get your foot in the door and they'll refer you to other businesses that would like some help, too. In fact, I landed 2 clients, which multiplied into 4 just by their word of mouth.

I'm sure that your potential clients recieve tons of such emails per day. So the only way to stand out of the pack is to develop some unusual emails or try some of offline tools

If you're having trouble making personal relationships, find out where local business owners hang out. I know people have had luck with places like chamber of commerce for networking.

Once you get rolling, biz dev will propel you beyond just a handful of clients. Think about making partnerships with design firms and giving them a commission, this is a common avenue but there's a lot more possibilities than this.

I have great success with calling business owners and speaking with them directly. Give that a shot, I generally will write up some information on what I would like to talk about before calling the lead.

Create a text that advertises your business and paste it in every mail you are sending to the companies, make it as convincing as you can, emphasizing the benefits that they will have if they work with you. Also you could offer some benefits, like free AdWords coupon or anything like that, free things work wonders on customers. Work for a smaller price than the other already existing companies, you have to start somewhere and because you are new in the business you have to consider taking less money at first. Create a Facebook page for your SEO website and invite people to like and share it, try to have some daily posts so as if someone starts a new site will see what you offer and take it into consideration. Make calls and even go to companies to advertise your business, come prepared with a good presentation and offer them some files containing important information about what you are doing.
