I just saw this gem on SEO Book. It should bring a smile to black hatters:

Bob Dylan Offers Sage SEO Advice for New Websites & New Webmasters

Here's a quote that is really weird coming from a site like that:

To me, SEO Book has often crossed over to the dark side.

If you think about strict white-hat link building, you will have no control whatsoever on the anchor text that external sites use to link to your pages, therefore any SEO's that talk about using the correct keywords within anchor text are going to the dark side.

This is true for me, because recently I've seen better results from getting links with non specific or non exact anchor text, than when using 100% exact match anchor text. In addition, you would think that Google knows this and had adjusted their algo to suit.

Now I go for say around 70% varied/garbage anchor text, with about 30% including my preferred key terms. I have found that making a lot of links with exact anchor text is a quick way to the 'sandbox' filter or whatever they call it these days.

I must have been one of the first people to buy seobook.PDF when it came out ages ago.

What we call Black Hat SEO in 2013 used to be SEO in the good old days. So basically Aaron has not become black hat, he just hasn't sold out to search engines like the other guys did.
