I'm currently changing hosting and OVH/Kimsufi has awesome prices for the specs.

However, since I target primarily US visitors I am afraid that Google will screw my rankings since the server is hosted in the UK.

Will the server location affect my rankings in this case? Anyone has any experience with it?

    Thanks

Yes it will have SEO benefits to move to a US based server. Sometime ago Matt Cutts confirmed it too if I remember correctly.
Just choose your hosting provider wisely because there are many with long downtimes and slow response time (oversold shared hosting) and you might screw up your current rankings instead of getting better..
