so i could rank any page i want even if it wasnt on my website? Lets say i wanted to build backlinks to an article.. that would rank my article higher assuming my keywords are all low to medium competition and such?

you understand that a "blog" and a "website" are the same thing as a "forum" or directory" in the eyes of search engines right?
People are the ones who put a name and distinction to them. As far as the spyders and robots and SE's are concerened any HTML based site on the net is all the same.

Now if you are asking about the difference between a static HTML based website or a website using Blog software such as workdpress then yes SEO applyies to both. And actually it is often faster and more easy to get a better ranking and exposure on sites using blog software. Because the search engines recognize it is a blog platform and expects it to be updated with new content more often then a static website.

But the basic principles for gaining PR and inbound links and traffic are the same that you would do for both.

Quick run-down of linkjuice (aka PR that flows to other pages.):

You can get a high PR on any page on the internet, even this thread can get a high PR if enough links point to it. Each link that points to it has what's commonly referred to as linkjuice. You can only transfer so much linkjuice based on the number of links you have on a page and it gets split up between each link.

So, if you had an article at Ezinearticles that had a link to the fornt page on your website, you can directly raise the PR of the Ezinearticle by pointing links to it from ther websites. The Ezinearticle can then pass linkjuice to your website based on it's own pagerank.

You are aware though that PR has historically been an unreliable and unstable way or determining any type of importance for a page or site right?
Its a good thing to say to perspective clients and it sounds catchy and all but PR is really a poor metric to go by.
And with Google always changing algorithms around that affect how the PR is figured out, I wouldnt put much trust or effort trying to achieve a high PR.
Just try and get your posts to rank one the 1st page and stay there for a while. If you are able to do that then you will get more traffic and more links which will also improve your PR if you are that worried about it.

i recommend you to either find some books or vids on the download section about seo as you clearly lack the most basic info about seo.

the vids on the download section are very good and you can be happy as a newbie to seo that you found this forum as it's very powerful. thake advantage of this as your 1 in a milion newbie that gets access to this powerful material.

It's not that your a "SEO newbie" it's just the question is flat out retarded. I'm not going to sugar coat it to make you warm and fuzzy, it's simply the dumbest thing i've read all day.. Digitalpoint material.

Can a blog get a high PR? Go to Google and type in Wordpress Blog, fuck me it says PR9.

You won't get anywhere if you can't think.

I understand your anger, but I think that you should do your research before asking something that basic for your own sake.

Research other forums, research ebooks, research Google.

If you type in exactly what you named this thread, you would see this on Google:

    Code:
    http://www.problogger.net/archives/2005/08/15/search-engine-optimization-for-blogs/
Great read for someone wanting to know more about how SEO applies to blogs.

You would also notice that for some weird reason, someone posted about this exact thread on their blog:

    Code:
    http://newsunseo.com/seo-blog/?p=21219
The point is please take the initiative and research for yourself. That is the only way to really learn and become a better marketer.

Finally, please post in the appropriate sections. This belongs in the "Blogging" section rather than the BH SEO section.

OP, I hear what you are saying and I understand you want to know but that really is a bit of an insult to people on here who have spent their time and made their own effort to find out about what makes a website tick and how the internet works so I can also understand the anger towards a question like that.

I actually thought you were taking the piss when you asked that question!
