I am planning to send some marketing emails with Mailchimp.

But the list I have (a very small but targeted one) is just scraped from public websites.

They are all generic address like sales@, info@ etc. Can I get away with sending to those through mailchimp?

Or is there a better way to do it, should I send them a private opt in first?

You need to clean your list to reduce the bounces. See if you can "find a copy of" Maxprog eMail Verifier. Run the list through the software and filter out all the dead ones. You can then import the verified list to Mailchimp and start your campaigns. You said the list is scraped so you'll have a hard time making them opt in to whatever you offer. Better blast the offer straight away. Email CTR depends on how you pitch the Subject. Feel free to PM me if you need any assistance.

If it is a one off, you can do that through MC. Just have to watch some of the KWs you use in the body as they are not fans of SEO and weight loss types... I've been nailed by them a few times using that stuff.

If you are using this list over and over again, sounds like FBGuru has some pretty sound advice.

As a good example, even though sending to generic company emails is not against CANSPAM guidelines (I think), mailchimp dont allow it, so they are more strict than they necessarily could be, for starters.

Also, I think they spend quite a lot of time on automated checking of new account behavior to try and stop you breaking the rules (From an article I read on them).

they do have a really good guide on their site for setting up your own mailserver though, which is quite cool.

My list isn't anything special, its a very small list that I built to target a local niche for offline marketing - its for my IT services business. Any leads from the list will be very valuable to me directly.

first sent them a private opt-in.

alternate way could be eliminate the mails the emails which have sales@ , webmaster@, admin@ and then send out.... try to send in small instalments otherwise you may end up risking your mailchimp account....

if you need less headache, get a setup, where you have full control over things
