January 6th, 2009 Blog Entry by Denis de Bernardy
    Semiologic Pro, v.5.7

    Key changes in this release:
? WordPress 2.7 is included in the package
? Multitudes of plugins have gotten minor tweaks and bug fixes related to recent WP API changes
? A few plugins have been dropped (e.g. Now Reading, Role Manager)
? Other plugins have been replaced, by new ones (Semiologic Cloner) and by existing ones (Version Checker now manages upgrades)
? We've introduced a few new plugins, such as Auto Thickbox
? The Semiologic Docs plugin got a massive update, to take advantage of the recently introduced help API in WP
? Version Checker now allows you to install Semiologic Pro on a WP 2.7 site (we'll put up a page on how to do this shortly)
Old time users will probably want to give some attention to:
? The stuff we've recently published in this site's SEO resources

    To conclude on upcoming developments:
Semiologic Pro hosting will be available this quarter on hub.org.
And Semiologic 6 (with the Semiologic Reloaded theme) will be released alongside WP 2.8, which is slated this quarter as well.

Have not tried it out yet...

    Download and enjoy. ;)

    yes, this is really great.

I had to throw up when i activated that theme.

Also...its very well spent money on some BUTTUGLY "SEO" theme with some random free plugins thrown in...really, $300 "well" spent.

Next time i let some mentally challenged person "design" a theme like this, add some plugins to the package and charge $300 myself . By the way i didnt expect anything else than this CRAP just by seeing their trashy sales page.

Although their sales page blows, consider this more than a theme and more like frame work that can be skinned, besides the various layout options included in the "Appearance section" you may want to look in the "Widgets sections" as well and look through the "Current Widgets" drop downs and the ability to insert widgets into the header, footer, sidebars and such. This does need to have some better out of the box skins for the price of near $300 but I haven't seen a single theme that is this configurable in itself without having to modify files directly. This would be good for someone who want's to bang out a reconfigurable look and may have the time on their hands to create a skin for it. Well that is my review after fiddling with it for 3 minutes.

this theme 'calls' home, as you are to register all of the domains that you have the theme on.

has this one been 'neutered'. I worked on a project with someone, and it did not work out...he deleted the domain (at the semiologic site, and after? the admin panel had red text 'reminding' me that the installation was not registered.

wondered if anyone had any experience with this?

you can get the previous version 5.6.5 for free off of the site. it seems to be working with wp2.7.1 (so far)
    Code:
    http://www.semiologic.com/software/wp-themes/sem-theme/

the plugs from the above DL could be used in this one.

for what it is worth? you can get some very nice results if you load in your own headers, and really play with the options.

    R-

Thanks for the share have always wanted the pro version, I may give this a try as I have only used the free version and have great results with it. The great thing about is that get your wordpress to look static. I have set up review sites by putting the reviews down the bottom by using the footer boxes, and the article up the top. I can create relevant landing pages for adwords with each article at the top. And my reviews are on every post if you want an example let me know.
The CSS are easy to change the look as well.

This theme has always been butt fucking ugly. I find it amazing after all those $300 sales that the owner can't cough up $150 for a better designed theme.

I mean let's get real...it can be SEO friendly and pretty right? That's when the greed really pisses me off.

Have to agree with Lurking about the butt ugly, but can be a great theme to put things where you want them.

The way I change the look is I use topstyle lite the free version and eclipse pallete, which is a free color picker program.
I open the css style sheet can you can use the custom one he gives you in custom-samples folder or use one of the others, in the skins folder. He gives you examples on how to change the styles in custom.css sheet and then how to upload it.
If you change one of the skins make sure you upload that skin back to the original folder, or call it custom.css. and upload to the semilogic directory skins folder in your themes folder.

I open up eclipse pallete and go find some colours I like around on other sites, or if you have great header you want to use pick out some colours in the header to create the theme around your header.I drag them to the smaller boxes in eclipse, once I have found a theme of colours I like, I open up topstyle, open the custom.css or one of the skins. Click down the list and use topstyle to change the colours.

How? by clicking on the colour codes in the css sheet and then clicking on eclipse, it will show you the colour code in the program, you copy that code to topstyle. If you have a good look around topstyle you can change lines to ridges and to more nicer looking frames and buttons.

I am no expert in css, I have learnt to do this through just trial and error and taking some time to learn. Once you have done it a couple of times you will get use to how to make the changes.
I have even had ago at adding other style sheets from wordpress themes to semilogic and it has worked, I have just uploaded the style sheet and renamed it to custom.css.into one of the skins or just straight into the theme folder. Dont forget to upload images as well.

I don't change the layout using css only the colours etc. Semilogic is easy to change the layout through the options in the theme and by using the widgets. The widget is very extensive and you can put your reviews in the footer boxes which are 3 wide or you can add them in the after each entry by adding a text box and using html and tables to create that review style ( you write all that first then add the html code into a text widget). I would put a link to show you my site and how it looks but I don't have enough posts for that. To try out where the items go in the theme add a text widget to each area and type test 1 test 2 etc you will see where you can add so many things within the semilogic theme. But really it is hard to make it look professional.

By the way I am not a dude, I am chick, ( aussie version of a girl)

Flexsqueeze is better looking and just as configurable. Don't waste your time with this one.
