Selling to your email list vs providing value?

So I am building an email list (they opt in for a free ebook that is of high quality).

After that I have an autoresponder sending them mails around different topics in the same sub niche (self help) where I give tips and then sell at the end of every email. I mail out every other day.

The thing is.. the mails where I offer value and tips get way worse CTR to the product I am advertising at the end of the mail than the ones where I basically offer no value but just advertise that if you want to get good at X then check out this link where you can get the answer.. and the link is always a clickbank product that suits that problem.

Should I just ditch the value offering part and go straight to only advertising products?

I know people say that giving out free value will serve you better.. but like.. if I get 3x more clicks to the clickbank links on my salesy mails then.. is providing mails with tips even worth it in the end??

I would like the feedback of people who have ACTUALLY marketed to email lists and not the usual "provide value, money is in the list, if you treat your list well then they will treat you well" crowd that have only read about lists and never had one themselves.

Thanks!

Hi,

personally, I'd forget about "sales email" vs "value e-mail".... all your emails should be value emails.

You can provide value in 3 ways IMO;

1) give them useful news about the niche/industry (did a new product/website launch, did scientists discover/invent something useful, is the government doing something related to the niche...and so on).

2) Give them useful reviews/user generated content & stories from people that had their problem are now no longer dealing with that problem because of X solution or other user generated content - engage with your customers via email, ask them to email you their positive news or reviews etc. and they might get a shout out in the emails.

3) Tell them about a useful product product feature of the product. This would be what most people call your traditional sales email. But instead of trying to sell, focus on providing value - this way, its not sales, but a value e-mail. Talk about only 1 feature and its benefit in this email. And next time, talk about another feature, then another time a 3rd feature. But don't talk about all features & benefits in 1 e-mail.

.....

If you focus on providing *VALUE* .... even your sales emails won't feel like sales e-mail, they'll actually be useful information about a product that will solve a problem for them. But in order to do this, you have to stay away from shitty products.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply - unfortunately I can't stay away from shitty products as my niche in Clickbank doesn't have products that don't promote that by buying the product you shall even shit golden eggs with naked chicks sucking you off at the same time.

I mean you could sell horse shit if you know what you are doing so always provide value then the pitch

Value in this case, is subjective.
You give tips to your audience, but to your audience it might already be common knowledge or something they don't want to spend time learning about. In this case they might feel like they are wasting time on your emails.
I've found most just want to receive discounts, or in some circumstances something new.

Have you considered creating your own product? No need to re-invent the wheel. Improve on what is already selling/working.

I agree all emails should be value emails, depending on how emails are generated. Going straight to sales would be a good course of action. As too many warm up/info emails can cause leads to over look sales emails.
