Hi all, im in two minds of what to do and im wondering what you guys opinion is?

Ive ranked many local websites now and im in number 1 spot for my niches. I have also started my own cleaning company which gets phone calls daily, and im taking on new business every day. Problem for me is, i really enjoy doing SEO related tasks, and anything else just seems like a distraction from what i would really like to be doing :(

If i was penniless ( like i was 7 years ago) i would be thrilled to have all this business pouring in ( and i am greatful, im always greatful) but its not my passion.

So my question is: do i build a cleaning business empire and dominate the market locally and have staff doing the work or do i start my own little local SEO company?

Hire staff to do the cleaning business and keep going with SEO. I've dealt with a similar situation in the past with this and if you want to stay in it for the long haul, it's best to keep doing what you enjoy. You'll make a little less money because you're paying someone else to do the cleaning for you but it'll free up your time to focus on what you want.

Also, unless you plan on doing SEO work for thousands of dollars a month (if business in your area supports those fees) then I'd rethink starting an SEO company. Rather, you've already succeeded once with optimizing and ranking your carpet cleaning business. Nothing wrong with doing the same thing in another niche. If you're making money from the carpet cleaning business, then you have some income to keep you going and research other businesses you can start and have low competition. Or, do your research and find a business in a niche you'd like to go into and partner with them. You do the marketing, they do the work, it's a win/win for both parties. If they don't want to make you a partner in their current business, strike a deal with them and start a new business with a new domain - doesn't have to be a new domain as you can always buy an old one with decent metrics and build from there. Just be sure to check Archive and history.

Just stay out of my niches :)

Do both, there always got to be a back up as no SEO business is permanently successful and that too when you rely on google to rank websites.

Thanks for the comments guys - and just to let you know....the business is a window cleaning business and trust me when i say it makes ££££ windows always get dirty and you have a residual income that just keeps getting bigger every month. Its all cash ( mostly) but you can take payments online via paypal. Average business profit is £40 - £50 per hour. Put your cleaners on 40% of what they clean and watch them fly through all of the work. And you just collect in all the cash of an evening from all customers houses. I had a huge house call me the other day and i quoted £80 an hour and their response was "yeah no problem".

The secret to a window cleaning business is - you dont have to keep looking for new business. Once you get a new customer you get them on every month until they move home or die ( this happens and its horrible). So your income just keeps growing month by month.

    Do both my fellow UK'er!

Someone can manage the cleaning side to allow you to focus on SEO or vice versa

    Good luck!

Be careful your cleaners might secretly steal your businesses by offering the customers cheaper rates privately.

Maybe some "secret services" thrown in too.

Do both, hire a trusted person with experience in business to manage the day t day running of the cleaning business, you can work from an office in the same building and do your seo stuff.

gutter cleaning jobs often get thrown in with window cleaning. Just give your guys 50%. Your doing all their marketing keeping them working. If they screw you over they know they cant manage it all them selves. Most experienced window cleaners would rather work for a company. They would rather turn up to work and clean windows. And thats it. They dont have to bother with paperwork, advertising, collecting payments etc. That's why you get experienced window cleaners they know the job is hard to do all on your own. It works better with team work :)

So, you're basically service brokering with your window cleaning business?

Do what you love doing, SEO. Man, if I know how to rank websites like you can I'd hang up the wand right now and do SEO. Certain business such as dentists for example will pay you good money to get their site to number one.

Do both. Doing both (your cleaning business and SEO) at the same time will never make life be boring and also gives some financial security.

Do both but dedicate more time into the cleaning business. This is because its a business you OWN. Ranking sites for clients is beneficial to the client long term and is short term to you. YOUR business is your own long term income source. Just my 2 cents.
