I posted an ad on Kijiji for the Ipod I am selling and got this email...

I believe you and I trust your words, actually I am currently in Military Camp Out of the State but I will also like to speed up this transaction because my Girlfriend birthday is at hand and I want the item reach it's destination as a gift. My Girlfriend is currently study abroad, Due to high cost of shipment through Canada Post (1-2weeks post) to Lagos - Nigeria, I will offer you $490 to cover both item and shipping expenses.

More so, since I was screwed before I prefer payment terms to go through PayPal so as to protect both buyer and seller. Get back to me with your PAYPAL email for immediate payment and if you are not PayPal user, you can set up one in few minute through PayPal website.

I await your urgent response soonest.
    Thanks

Seems really sketchy to me and possibly a person who would pull a charge back... what do you think?

PayPal lets the buyer do chargebacks of he "thinks/tells paypal" that he didn't recieve it. Then the seller has already sent the item.

So in the end the buyer ends up with his cash and the item.

They dont do charge backs. They never send the money in the first place.

After you agree to sell it, they send a fake email to your email address pretending to be paypal. It claims that for buyer protection you have to provide a shipping code before your account is credited with the money.

This is obviously nonsense, but I guess some people fall for it and ship out the item.

Haven't you guys used ebay? I sold ipods on there and these bastards would bid on all my auctions and send me those emails when they won... it sucked

Scambaiting, probably. Fun for the whole family! I must admit that it's fun to jerk those fools around a bit. They'll do almost ANYTHING if they think there's money in it for them. I saw one scambaiter who got the scammer to tattoo the phrase "I am a dumbass" on his forehead. Of course, the scambaiter had built up a complicated story about why that was necessary. Pretty entertaining to read...if you do a Google search for "419 baiting" "scam baiting" etc. you can read about this particular hobby.

:lmao: If someone comes across the photo (as I'm sure it went viral after the scambaiter got it and posted it somewhere) please do post it!

I'm too lazy to gaggle it atm.
