    Hi,

I just had some questions about selling adult content. I'm a photographer (have been for about ten years) and I'm considering branching out into the world of erotica. I'm not looking to start a paysite, but maybe sell original content to resellers. I've been reading up on the subject, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of specific info out there. Right now it's just an idea, but I had some basic questions that maybe some of you who have been in the business could answer...

    1. How much do porn photo-sets sell for?

    2. How much and how are models paid? Is it by the hour, number of photos, or by the shoot/day? (I've never personally hired models, just done contract work for local magazines/catalogs and the occasional portrait/wedding type work). I could negotiate any of those I suppose, but I'm curious what's the standard.

    3. Who are some reputable buyers? Obviously this is a kinda shady business (nature of the beast) but I don't want to get ripped off.

Any other info would be appreciated too, sorry if this is a lot for a first post, but hopefully I'll be able to answer some stuff for you guys later on.

    Thanks - fifthbell

Honestly, erotic stories sell better for me than images. You can hire really skilled erotic writers on fiverr.
    Hope it helps

    Thanks -
I hadn't thought about stories, I write articles occasionally but I've never tried writing smut. Might be fun. I'm not looking to subcontract if I can help it, but if they sell well and the price is right I'd consider it.

You can sell them as image pack + stories combos or add stories as a free bonus to boost the sales.

Too broad a question to answer. It depends on license of the photo set (ie is is exclusive, or are you offering it to anyone who wants to buy it), content of the set, and how you're selling the content.

    There's not really a standard:

First, the content type matters - You'll pay a helluva lot more for a gangbang shoot than for an artsy set of a girl silhouetted in the window.

Next, the rate - hourly, daily, can be anything you agree to. Like everything else, the more of a model's time you buy at once, the less you pay per unit of time.

Lastly, fame costs. You'll pay a premium for an established, in-demand model.

Any major website could be a reputable buyer. Just contact them and see if they want content - if they're interested, they'll ask for samples and prices.

The only real way to avoid being ripped off is to get a bulletproof contract signed each time you sell (I'm pretty sure an electronic signature counts).

Generally speaking, you've got the most difficult-to-get part covered (the photo equipment and experience). If you do it at all, it makes much more sense to build your own site than to try and sell the content to others.

It's like if you're a decent writer, it makes more sense to write for your own sites and make all the money the writing earns than to take a fraction of that total up front.
