Hello :) I am making this post because I want to share with you a little "story" about some Wiki Link Building. I have a gig on fiverr saying that I will build a X number of Wiki's .
About 1 month Ago Some user contacted me to talk with me about my gig . He told me that he has 8 websites and he would like me build some wiki links for him.

He made the orders for his sites and I immediatly checked his rankings ...He had his sites on page 5, 8 , 9 ,16, 20, 23, 29, 37 for the keywords he gave me . For all his sites he gave me some different keywords. ( He asked me to put 3 Links to his site per Wiki Created ) His monthly searches per keywords are between 10k-20k monthly searches.
I monitored his KW and Sites Every Day ( His sites met the Google Dance ) . After 2 weeks all his sites went to page 1 of google. Today I checked his sites again and are still on Top 10 of google. He told me that I was the only one that made some link building to his site.

The strange thing is that I built for a site of mine the same number of wiki links and my site went from page 1 to page 2 . My site remained to page 2 .

Is it possible that the wiki's afftects every site differently ?

Wiki's are a good part of a backlink profile. You should never rely on one form of backlink alone.

from what I have seen and read, google handles link profiles for every niche a little differently.

I've done many tests with wiki links and there is certainly a threshold. A certain amount of wikis will catapult your site to the top, but I've found that if you do it excessively it will tank your site very quickly. The exact amount is determined in part by your sites existing link portfolio and how diverse it is. The more diverse your base of links the more aggressively you can play. Be sure to drip your wiki blasts to money site and blast the wiki links after their creation. You should also use the maximum time delay on Lindexed of 5 days and drip the crawling. Ideally, you should do this in batches so that the entire process takes 15-30 days. The more links your site has overall the faster you can drip, for newer sites start slow.

On one site I saw an improvement from Wikis alone, from a service provider here at BHW. But on other sites, wikis did not do any good whatsoever. I've come to the conclusion that they are best used to index other links to reinforce tiers. Even then I use them sparingly while building other links too.

Since each site has its own backlink profile, within its own niche, the variables involved in determining if wiki links are effective is a moving target. Since the overwhelming majority of wiki links are no follow, don't expect magic from them outside of anchor text and IP diversity.

Wiki's doesn't affects sites differently but its content. From what i see, the reason why your site gone down where your client's site moved up is because he may have bought backlinks from different providers offering backlinks from different platforms. Yours raised a red flag causing lower rankings for just having backlinks from wiki's.

There are to many factors lately to determine if one single backlink 'method' works or not.

    Pure wiki's > $site dont work.

    Been there, done that, etc...

    madeye32,
Did your customer have any wiki in place prior to you adding some? If he didn't, that would explain the improvement in ranking.

Unless they are low obl, and niche related in some way, I would use them VERY sparingly directly on a money site.

However, from my own projects I can state they are excellent as a tier 2 buffer.

I never had problems with linkbuilding and getting unnatural link messages or dances in Google until I started using Wiki's. I'm not saying they are the root cause of everything bad thats happened to my sites, but it all started when I began trying wiki backlinks last fall. I don't touch them anymore but thats just my own personal thing, I'm sure others may have success with them.
