The title: I could not figure out what to write so I wrote like that. I am sorry if it is misleading.

I started on working for a client's website 5 weeks back. Complete whitehat techniques, rates were also very cheap and the niche was competitive, property niche. After one month there was a good improvement in the rankings, the screenshot shared here is taken today, there are drops in the last week because I have stopped working. See the picture and please answer me one thing, what will do if it were you. My client after seeing the results did not want to continue with my services. He did not say me anything but he is not paying me also.

What will you do? Continue with my services or stop?
If I am doing wrong somewhere please give me some advice.

    Regards

How can we give you advice if we don't know what it is you've done?

If the client does not pay, you need a fallback. You should have actually asked for a deposit upfront. Either you can spam his site to death, try convince him to pay you, or forget about it and learn from your mistakes.

I'd take the 2nd and then the 3rd.

    Guys

I dont think OP is asking that

As I understand it OP wants to know if thay are bad results for 5 weeks given that it is a tough market - is that right OP?

I would say they are pretty good results and the client is a dick, but hey, thats what you get in this business

And ETA I would continue in answer to your question

looks like your client is new or a noob.

you will need to show him traffic not serps.

just stop your service and find a new client or you have his niche make a website and rank it then bank.

results on a daily basis mean next to nothing, Google dances like that anyway and it's out of your control.
Results should only really be checked and reported on a weekly or monthly basis for you and your client to know if the work you are doing is paying off..

For the month you have shown him massive improvements. Just because keywords bounce back a bit for a week is not unusual.

However too many people are serving up SEO services like they are a waiter at a restaurant. When the customer has had his fill and doesnt feel like paying you then what are you going to do ?

You need to get more professional. There are plenty of freelancer sites that can give you advice on how to draw up contracts and agreements so that you are covered for your time and effort.

Too many clients dont really see a tangible difference in their traffic and bottom line straight away and seem to think that SEO is just pressing a few buttons on a computer.....they dont see the work you have done.

I would be keeping a record and recording graphs of progress for this guy and sending him an invoice with results attached to show that you did your job and he has to pay as agreed. However in future get agreements in writing, agree to goals and steady progress and dont be working on a month to month basis, real SEO contracts need to be a minimum of three months and preferably six.

Remember not everybody can see the benefit of SEO and just look at it as an expense.

The ranking improvements look good but do you have traffic and conversion figures.

This might be one of the cases where you need to look a bit deeper at the clients business.

How are they collecting/converting leads? etc
If some dick in the company isn't doing their job properly then as far as the business owner is concerned, he isn't seeing a return on his investment in SEO.

Also follow Duffers advice draw up a contract next time and make sure that you get paid for any work you do.
Put in clauses that pay a bonus if certain targets are met.

Thanks for your very valuable advice. I appreciate it, I will make sure that I follow the things that you all have said.
I asked it because I don't have many clients, at times I even don't have any client. If this one goes out I will be left with just one client, that is why I am desperate to get the money. Thanks for your advice.

There is nothing you could do in a matter of 5 weeks that would affect his site. Especially if you were doing clean link building. It really just looks like your client was a victim of the latest Google Penguin refresh, which I saw on a few of my sites on Wednesday morning. The client still needs to look at the overall view. Monthly gains were tremendous. There was just a correction, but nothing that should scare the client off.

This is where having communication with the client is very important. If you are scared to explain why he is seeing these drops, then you shouldn't be running an SEO company, or at least hire someone to do sale/customer service. It is all part of the gig unfortunately.

The website is just 2 months old and I am the one first doing link building on it, so there is very less chance of penguin.
I talk to the client almost every alternate day. He asks me what is going on and I tell him that everything is fine and if I need anything. The drops are not a part of my report because my ranking reports were a week earlier when the whole screenshot had only 2 red marks on it, this is a week after when I stopped working on it. The thing here is the client is not ready to believe me that I worked, he thinks it ranked automatically, just think automatically for "property niche", he says in one month this cannot be, that is where I am stuck along with him.

Hey if you have stopped doing SEO to a particular website, you expect the rankings to drop. No rocket science here, tell him that he need to extend the contract for stable rankings.

Isn't it the case that your client perhaps ought to have had his perceptions shaped a little at the outset? I've discovered that people are usually cool with anything, as long as they're expecting it :)

i had a client once who had their secretary (who knew a little about IM) basically use my work as a road map on how to rank their other sites.

looking back, i should have built the links only to hubs which i controlled (2.0's, .info, 301, etc.) and made sure the switch could be turned off if something shady happened

don't want to pay? zap! your site's gone

some people are shortsighted and opportunistic, and will take from you if you let them.
