Search Term Hits per Day

I often see post talking about how many hits a keyword or search term gets per day is there one source tool that is recognized as accurate. If someone says that kw gets 150,000 hits what are they using to source that?

It's never completely accurate, but it's a good starting point:

You can also do a Google search volume comparison of multiple keywords with Google Trends:

Thanks oldenstylehats I have tried the seo book search but found it to not be so helpful in lower volume search terms under 500. I never checked out google trends before and thought it was pretty cool the way it works but if it gives individual search term number of searches per day per week etc I couldn't find it.

Its very hard to accurately gauge exactly how many hits a term gets daily. Too many variables go into it.
 
for low number of searches you may need to run a PPC campaign for a week or so to figure it out.
 
Appreciate the info on this thought I was missing an accurate tool to gauge the hits a kw would get.
 
No, it's hard to accurately evaluate true volume. Sort of a pay-to-play thing.
 
Yes, I also found that the tool can only provide the "feeling" about the traffic. Seems need to run a small campaign in adwords to test the real traffic.
 
I generally look at wordtracker and at Google's Keyword Toolbox traffic estimation. If both agree that there is a modicum of traffic, then I continue.. if only one, then usually I do not.
 
from playin garound with gogole traffic estimator for a while it seems to mel ike their resutls may be skewed by whether or not the term has a lot of advertisers. if there are no or low advertisers for theh term, it seems the numbers can be way off.

i'm no expert on this however, so has anyboyd else come to that conclusion?

I actually use the above in conjunction with compete.com. Compete only gives you US traffic but you can see what the traffic is for the number 1 site and the top 5 keywords to check for inaccuracies in wordtracker or keyword elite.
 
Someone explain this to me:

I look up a term in SeoBook - 100+ Searches a Day. Overture - 3000 a month
I look up on Adwords Sandbox - High Search Volume - $8 CPC for #1 spot.

I am thinking I hit a sweet niche (since .net is available). Search for that term - 0 ads.

Worth buying it and putting up Adsense blog, even if no one is advertising for the term?
 
I just won a free domain from Dotster, so I used that buy it.

Problem really isn't the money, it's that I certainly have 3 sites that I am working on, and another 5 or so that I need to work on. Heck, what is one more ...
