Search Engine Geographical Question

I have a national business that operates through local dealers. I do not have the entire country represented ... yet.

I rank on the first page for most of my general keyword terms. I would like to be higher, but I am still trying to figure out what really works and the best way to do it. That is another story.

I would like to end up on the first page with city specific key words where I have dealers. But, I do not want these individual pages to be site mapped or linked to my national web site (I would like to put the pages on the site; I just do not want these pages viewable through the main pages site map.)

The reason I do not want this is because a client may see we are not in an area that they are living in at the present.

Is this doable and how should I do it?

If I were you, I would create and put the pages on the web server and then link to each of them separately from other "city/state" websites with anchor text that reflects the keyword you're trying to rank in. You could use either directories or paid links if you don't have the contacts or network to have it done for free.

When you say web server, do you mean "domain"?

I was watching one of the seo DVD's that I have and this "guru" had a web page with keywords in content. At the bottom of the page he had all of the cities listed and showed up in google based on the keywords and the locations.

Couldn't I do the same thing based on geographical area? I just don't want access from the index page to these pages. However, I would be happy to link back to the index page.

I know I will have to build backlinks back to the pages, but I may have an area with 20-30 geographical keywords.
