seach engine traffic is dead

A lot of people saw the same drop around December, so you’re not alone. Google pushed several updates back-to-back, and many sites—especially smaller ones—lost visibility overnight. It doesn’t always mean you did something wrong.

Right now the best move is to check which pages lost rankings, see what’s ranking instead, and look for shifts in search intent or content depth. These updates usually take a few weeks to settle, and some recover on their own once things stabilize.

Totally feel this, a lot of sites have been hit recently and it’s brutal to watch numbers fall off a cliff like that. Search is shifting hard toward giving answers directly on the results page with AI summaries and zero‑click results, so users often get what they need without ever visiting an actual website.

Traffic often drops precisely when Google has core updates or quality checks. The decrease isn't just in quantity, but also in quality, with many obvious spam visits. I usually check the source code and Search Console to see which pages are experiencing a significant drop, then focus on improving the intent and content of those pages

Search engine traffic isn’t dead. It’s just shifting from easy clicks to fewer, higher-intent visits driven by trust and usefulness.

You’re not crazy. This hit a lot of people at the same time. December lines up with Google changes, and small sites got crushed. Going from 100 a day to 14 isn’t your fault, that’s the rules changing.

Search isn’t dead, but it’s basically not for us anymore. Big brands, Reddit, and Google itself take the clicks now. The junk traffic you’re seeing is real and it sucks.

Being scared about needing a job is normal. Losing traffic feels like the floor dropping out. You didn’t fail — the system just moved.

since december 1 traffic to all my websites is dead. in one site I was getting 100 unique visitors a day. today? 14. motherfucking 14. and the 14 is trash. they don't call. they don't fill out the contact forms. probably bots. I am so depressed. I am afraid I will be forced to get a real job.
does anybody know what the hell is going on?
What was the traffic earlier ?

Google is basically telling you that your old methods are expired and it is time to evolve or get a real job as you feared. Check your search console for any manual actions because a drop that fast usually means Google has a personal grudge against your domains

If you think 14 visitors is bad just wait until you have a boss asking why you were 5 minutes late for a real job. Stop crying over the analytics and start checking if your site got hit by a manual penalty or just a heavy core update

For me it hit by November then December traffic got lower.it happened to all of us.

You are likely seeing the impact of a recent Google core or spam update hitting visibility, so audit Search Console for drops, check indexing and content quality, and give it time while improving relevance and trust signals.

I think this is happening due to Google Core Update, which recently started from 11 December and It will take around 3-4 weeks to complete. Also this rollout will impact on ranking as mention in google search status dashboard. So you can also check there. I also see my website ranking down while this happen to search engine. But I think this is not much will impact if you do good practice with your website content. Hope it will help you.

You’re not alone December core updates plus AI overviews crushed a lot of small sites overnight. Traffic isn’t dead, but redistributed: Google favors brands, forums, and fresh intent content now.
