It appears I have lost $10000 on freelancer. About a year ago I posted a project on freelancer and also paid for freelancer to recommend someone to build my website. They recommended a company who was thousands of dollars higher than any other bidder. I went with them because of the recommendation. Once they started they said they needed more money which I agreed to in return for getting a great site. After a year I still have nothing. I filed a dispute but apparently that only pertains to milestones that you have not issued. They do nothing to protect customers. It also appears that this guy knows how to avoid things like bad feedback by upping the price you have to list new milestones and if you do not leave feedback after the last one of the original milestones is given out your ability to leave feedback expires after a time. I know the CEO of freelancer was active on here at one time. Does anyone know how to contact him?

Sucks to hear that...I highly doubt he's active here anymore however whatever you do, don't give up. That way they'll be able to scam more and more people

I thought freelance sites care more about their clients. Why did you release your milestone funds without approving the work?

I did confirm the work but he still has it on a testing site. I have nothing in my actual hands.

Being that much money involved i would consult with a lawyer.Did you sign a contract for the work paid for?

That's your fault for confirming and releasing the milestone. It clearly says "the money can't be refunded after clicking yes" and you were aware of it. You should've asked him to send you the files first.

Hmmm.... is he saying he won't give you the HTML files needed to host it on your own server?

Tried contacting your credit card company/bank?

Contact your bank. You're not going to get far in contacting the 'CEO'. And to be completely honest, you shouldn't have released those milestone payments without getting anything in return. The terms for the milestones are very clearly shown before you hit submit. You should have cancelled there and then when the designer kept asking you to release the milestones. I've done $XX,XXX+ transactions for Web Design in the past and there is no way I'm sending a huge chunk of it unless I see something in return. Did you get absolutely NOTHING for your $10K?

the site is hosted on a testing website but not on mine. On a big site you have to set up milestones for work in progress. You can't wait until it is done. This project is a year old. No one will work for a year without any sort of draw.
